Job Summary
A Rail Terminal Operations Manager is responsible for overseeing and managing the transfer of goods from one mode of transportation to another, ensuring the smooth movement of cargo throughout the supply chain. This role often involves coordinating with different transportation carriers, managing inventory, and ensuring compliance with safety regulations.
Key Responsibilities:
- Coordination and Scheduling: Manage the scheduling and coordination of the transloading process between different transport modes (e.g., rail, truck).
- Inventory Management: Track and maintain accurate records of inventory during the transloading process to ensure proper documentation and inventory control.
- Communication: Serve as the main point of contact between suppliers, transportation carriers, and customers to ensure smooth flow of goods.
- Documentation: Ensure all paperwork, including bills of lading, customs documentation, and freight tracking information, is completed accurately and on time.
- Safety Compliance: Ensure that all transloading activities comply with safety standards, regulatory requirements, and company policies.
- Problem Solving: Address any issues or delays that may arise during the transloading process and work to resolve them quickly.
- Quality Control: Monitor the condition of goods being transferred and report any damage or discrepancies to the appropriate parties.
- Reporting: Generate and maintain reports related to transloading operations, inventory status, and performance metrics.
- Collaboration: Work with warehouse staff, transportation providers, and logistics teams to ensure smooth transitions of goods between various transportation modes.
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent (Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Logistics, Supply Chain, or related field is a plus).
- Previous experience in logistics, transportation, or supply chain management preferred.
- Knowledge of transloading processes, shipping, and transportation.
- Excellent organizational and multitasking skills.
- Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Proficiency in logistics software and systems.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and solve problems quickly.
Working Conditions:
- May involve working in warehouse environments or at transportation hubs.
- Occasional long hours or overtime may be required to meet deadlines or handle urgent issues.
