The Department of Municipal Relations is seeking a qualified candidate to fill the Planning Assistant (AP2) position in Winnipeg, Manitoba. Conditions of Employment:
Must be legally entitled to work in Canada
Must possess and maintain a valid full stage Manitoba Class 5 driver's license
Must be able to travel throughout the Province as required

Qualifications:Essential:
A Diploma or Degree in Planning, Geography or Resource Management with experience working in a planning office. An equivalent combination of education training and experience may be considered
Experience working with Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and its application to the field of planning
Experience working with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel and Outlook) or equivalent software applications
Experience processing and analyzing documents and applications with a high degree of accuracy and attention to detail
Effective written communication skills
Effective verbal communication skills
Strong organization skills including the ability to complete assignments thoroughly, accurately, and in a timely manner
Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to develop and maintain positive working relationships with staff
Ability to work independently and demonstrate initiative

Desired:
Experience interpreting registered plans, assessment rolls and legal documents related to land parcels
Experience working with ArcGIS Desktop software suite

Duties:
The Planning Assistant is a specialized and technical position that supports the delivery of the Branch’s activities related to the acquisition, maintenance, and use of spatial data in community planning; the review of regulations and legal descriptions for municipal annexations and amalgamations; the administration of the provincial livestock technical review process; and the management and maintenance of records and files on issues such as by-laws, planning district formation, and general operational statistics.
