Job Summary:
The Tenancy Support Worker will support participants, community partners and property owners associated with the City of London’s Housing Services Division, to prevent eviction for high-risk tenancies by connecting participants to formal and informal social support services, based on need. This position will work in partnership and collaboration with the Housing Services Division and property owners.
This is a full-time, permanent position which includes enrollment in the Healthcare of Ontario Pension Plan (HOOPP) and extended healthcare benefits.
Successful candidates must have a Police Vulnerable Sector Check completed in the last six months. In order to avoid delays in beginning a position, interested applicants who reside in the City of London and are in need of a Police Vulnerable Sector Check (PVSC) are encouraged to apply for one as soon as possible as PVSCs in the City of London are currently taking approximately 2 weeks to be delivered and offers of employment may be delayed without receipt of a PVSC.
Job Description and Primary Responsibilities:
Referrals and Liaison with Housing Services Division and Property Owners:
- Collect and review referrals from the City of London’s Housing Services Division, and associated property owners, to ensure all information and resources are available to maintain and secure housing
- Develop practices and protocols that promote positive housing outcomes including such things as pay direct for rent and utilities and conflict resolution practices
- Engage property owners, property managers and/or landlords in the community; develop and maintain effective relationships and working partnerships
Service Coordination and Advocacy:
- Support participants (including families) in need of housing in finding and securing safe, suitable, affordable housing; this may include supporting both participants who require mental health supports, and those who do not
- Refer and connect participants with appropriate services, supports, and resources (formal and informal) based on their needs; advocate for, and support, these connections as needed
- Help participants access resources for housing-related assistance (i.e. furniture procurement, utility assistance, etc.)
- Collaborate and coordinate service with other service providers, based on referral needs, to support participants to maintain and stabilize their housing
- For participants in hospital who have existing community supports, communicate and coordinate service with established supports
Administrative Duties:
- Complete required documentation for participants, as per CMHA Middlesex standards
- Complete necessary documentation and data collection necessary
- Adhere to privacy and confidentiality policies, including those around access and viewing of patient health care records
Job Specifications:
Required Qualifications
- University/college degree or diploma in the social science field
- Minimum of one year work experience in the mental health field
- Experience working with homeless/marginalized populations
- Experience working with landlords and property services
- A high level of communication skills including dispute resolution practices, and an ability to recognize and diffuse potential conflict situations
- First Aid / CPR
- Ontario Driver’s Licence
- Access to a personal vehicle to carry out job duties
- Insurance adequate for transporting participants
- Current, clear Police Vulnerable Sector Check (PVSC)
- Ability to attend work regularly

- Knowledge of Psychosocial Rehabilitation
- Knowledge of community resources
- Experience working with private market housing partners.
- A working knowledge of the Residential Tenancies Act and associated Acts
- Knowledge of Municipal By-laws and Residential licensing
- Knowledge of computerized documentation methods
- Health and safety knowledge
- Crisis intervention and prevention
- Applied Suicide Interventions Skills and Training
- Bilingual in both official languages is an asset
Hours of Work:
- 70 hours over two week period
- Rotating schedule of day, afternoon and evening shifts; will include some scheduled weekend, as well as some public holidays
