About the Client:
We're seeking a compassionate caregiver for a 104-year-old woman who remains active and engaged despite using a wheelchair full-time. She lives at home with her son and daughter-in-law in Scotland, Ontario (near Brantford), where family members are always present to provide support. While her physical health is stable, her cognitive abilities have been declining gradually, and she requires supervision for safety and comfort. She becomes anxious when alone, so consistent presence and reassurance are essential. The family maintains a close, attentive care environment and handles meal preparation, laundry, and heavy lifting tasks.
Responsibilities:
Your primary role will be providing personal care and companionship during scheduled visits. Specific duties include assisting with toileting and hygiene in the bathroom, helping with clothing changes and diaper care, and providing supervision to ensure safety throughout the home. Family members will handle all transfers to and from the wheelchair and toilet, so you'll focus on the personal care aspects once she's positioned. You'll also help with medication reminders and provide cognitive support through gentle redirection and memory prompts as needed. Light companionship and engagement during your shifts will help reduce her anxiety and maintain her quality of life.
What We're Looking For:
The ideal caregiver speaks Urdu, Hindi, or Punjabi to communicate comfortably with the client. Experience with seniors who use mobility aids and require personal care is essential. We need someone patient, calm, and understanding of cognitive decline who can provide reassuring supervision without being intrusive. Reliability and consistency are crucial, as the family depends on scheduled coverage during specific weeks. You should be comfortable working independently while family members are nearby for support with physical transfers. A warm, respectful approach that honors the client's dignity and independence is paramount.
Schedule:
This is a recurring part-time position covering 3-4 days per week during alternating two-week periods. The family's current caregiver works full-time for two consecutive weeks, then only two days during the following two weeks. You'll provide coverage during those gap weeks when additional support is needed. Specific days and shift lengths (typically 6-8 hours) will be determined based on mutual availability and family needs.
