Shop Hand Job Summary
We are looking for a reliable and hardworking Shop Hand to join our maintenance team. This is a hands-on position assisting with the day-to-day operation of the shop, supporting our mechanics, and helping keep the workplace clean, organized, and efficient.
Some experience in a heavy duty or automotive shop is preferred. The ideal candidate will have a basic understanding of mechanical work, be comfortable performing basic wiring and electrical tasks, and have the ability to safely operate a truck and trailer for towing.
We are willing to train the right person who has a good attitude, is dependable, and is eager to learn and develop their skills.
Duties
- Assist mechanics with general shop and repair work
- Perform basic mechanical tasks as directed
- Perform basic 12-volt wiring and electrical work
- Safely operate a truck and trailer for towing and moving equipment or vehicles
- Load, secure, and transport vehicles, equipment, and materials as required
- Keep the shop, tools, and work areas clean and organized
- Assist with moving and organizing parts, tools, equipment, and supplies
- Help prepare vehicles and equipment for repairs
- Assist with general maintenance and shop projects
- Maintain a safe, hazard-free work environment
- Follow shop safety procedures and use proper safety equipment
- Assist other team members when required
- Perform other general shop duties as needed
Qualifications & Experience
- Some previous experience in an automotive, mechanical, or equipment repair shopis an asset
- Basic understanding of mechanical work and common shop tools
- Ability to perform basic wiring and electrical work
- Experience towing with a truck and trailer is strongly preferred
- Valid driver's licence and a safe driving record
- Ability to safely load, secure, and transport vehicles or equipment
- Good communication skills and ability to follow instructions
- Reliable, punctual, and willing to work as part of a team
- Physically capable of lifting, bending, standing, and performing general shop duties
- Strong attention to safety and detail
- Positive attitude and willingness to learn
