Job Summary
Madrid Painting is seeking a detail-oriented and experienced CPA / Senior Bookkeeper & Payroll Coordinator to support our painting company with bookkeeping, payroll, tax compliance, corporate tax filings, financial organization, and advanced tax advisory.
The ideal candidate will have experience with Canadian payroll, small business bookkeeping, corporate tax compliance, CRA requirements, QuickBooks Online or similar software, and strong attention to detail. This role requires someone who can work independently, keep accurate records, ensure payroll and accounting processes are organized and compliant, and provide financial and tax guidance to support business decisions.
This is a part-time position to start, with the possibility of increasing hours as the company grows.
Responsibilities
- Manage day-to-day bookkeeping tasks using QuickBooks Online or similar accounting software
- Process payroll accurately and on schedule
- Track employee hours, pay rates, payroll records, and related documentation
- Assist with payroll compliance, including source deductions, vacation pay, T4s, ROEs, and CRA-related requirements
- Maintain accounts payable and accounts receivable records
- Enter and organize invoices, expenses, receipts, payments, and contractor invoices
- Perform bank and account reconciliations to ensure financial accuracy
- Review accounts and identify discrepancies or issues requiring correction
- Prepare financial and payroll reports for management
- Support budgeting, job costing, and financial tracking for projects
- Maintain organized documentation for tax filing, audits, and year-end accounting
- Ensure compliance with CRA requirements and Canadian tax regulations
- Prepare and/or oversee corporate income tax filings
- Provide corporate tax planning and tax strategy recommendations
- Advise on payroll, contractor payments, employee classification, deductions, remittances, and other CRA compliance matters
- Provide advanced financial and tax advisory to support company decisions
- Coordinate with CRA or external professionals when required
- Maintain confidentiality of employee, payroll, tax, and company financial information
Qualifications
- Proven experience in bookkeeping, payroll processing, accounting, and corporate tax support
- CPA designation is strongly preferred
- Experience with Canadian corporate tax filings and CRA compliance
- Strong knowledge of Canadian payroll requirements, payroll deductions, vacation pay, T4s, ROEs, and remittances
- Experience with corporate tax planning and small business tax advisory
- Proficiency with QuickBooks Online, Sage, Xero, or similar accounting software
- Strong understanding of accounts payable, accounts receivable, reconciliations, and financial record-keeping
- Excellent organizational skills and strong attention to detail
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
- Strong communication skills
- Experience with construction, trades, painting, or service-based businesses is an asset
