To help achieve our business plans, Bruce Power currently has a vacancy for a Section Manager, Engineering within the Major Component Replacement (MCR) project.

Section Manager, MCR Engineering

Reporting to the MCR Engineering Support Manager, the Section Manager (SM) will be responsible for providing management of assigned in-house engineering staff or oversight of engineering contract staff, to ensure high quality engineering deliverables are produced that meet required engineering codes and standards and MCR program schedule and budget requirements and thereby support successful MCR program delivery.

The SM position is a critical function and key leadership role that is responsible for providing management or oversight and direction to assigned engineering staff. This will be accomplished by clearly defining and continuously reinforcing engineering staff roles and responsibilities and ensuring engineers remain focused on core activities and competencies.

Key Responsibilities:
Establish, communicate, enforce and reinforce high expectations and standards of performance and hold engineering staff accountable for implementing those standards.
Support and sustain a culture and behaviours that supports safe and reliable execution of MCR project commitments. This will ensure production of high quality deliverables that meet code, standard and project requirements.
Manage and/or provide oversight of assigned engineering staff and provide guidance, leadership and technical expertise to the resources.
Ensure tasks are assigned to appropriately trained, qualified engineering resources and that mentoring is available or provide oversight to ensure this occurs.
Proactive identification of engineering capability needs and sourcing of resources in order to achieve MCR Program requirements.
Responsible for day to day management and leadership and oversight of the section
Ensure MCR project reporting and metric requirements are met and sustained by assigned staff
Ensure MCR project phased gate deliverable requirements are supported by assigned staff
Support learning, continuous improvement and innovation through, for example, the use of the corrective action process, project lessons learned, use of OPEX (operating experience), collaboration and benchmarking
Advocate for continuous process improvement and innovation with assigned staff and foster close ties with functional group(s) to enable implementation of improvements.
Provide other supervisory and oversight roles for the section as needed.

Specific Accountabilities:
Provide management supervision and oversight of assigned engineers to ensure safe delivery of high quality engineering deliverables to meet engineering standards and MCR project schedule and budget requirements
Provide management supervision and oversight of assigned engineers to work with and support the MCR field execution phase as required (field support, commissioning, testing, available for service, return to service)
Conduct field observations; observe ongoing work and identify practices that are inconsistent with quality work and accepted Bruce Power practices.
Ensure inputs to the MCR program/project reports and metrics are timely and sustained as required
Ensure timely delivery of engineering deliverables to support MCR program phased gate reviews
Provide management supervision and oversight of assigned engineers to close out engineering packages
Provide management supervision and oversight of assigned engineers to ensure proactive identification of project/program risk, capturing of project lessons learned and identification of process improvements
Identify and advocate for process improvements and innovation

Skills and Knowledge:
Strong leadership skills and high degree of accountability and engagement.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Demonstrated knowledge and abilities related to managing of engineering resources
Demonstrated knowledge and experience in design (engineering) change control
Demonstrated ability to plan, estimate, prioritize and organize work to meet objectives.

Education and Experience:
A four year degree from a recognized university or equivalent in Engineering (Mech, Civil, Elect, Chem).
Professional Engineering designation is a requirement or actively pursuing this designation through submissions to the PEO.
A period of over 8 years of progressive management experience in Engineering or relevant field including specific nuclear or industry experience is considered necessary.
Experience with more than one engineering discipline is considered an asset.
Experience within a nuclear power plant or nuclear refurbishment project is considered an asset.
Experience in project management is considered an asset
Experience in problem solving independently and within multidisciplinary teams is considered an asset
Experience in continuous improvement is considered an asset.
