PSYO/NESC 3161 is a laboratory course in behavioural neuroscience. It focuses on the quantitative methods used to observe and describe rodent behaviours in a research laboratory setting, as well as the experimental design needed for these types of studies.
The Part-Time Academic will be responsible for teaching a 3000-level lab course, Measuring Behaviour (PSYO/NESC 3161.03). The class will be offered in a fully online, asynchronous format. The anticipated enrollment is 36 students, and the course comes with a TA130.
Responsibilities of the successful applicant will include:
- Developing and delivering 12 weeks of content, including lectures, readings, and assessments.
- Preparation and administration of assessments (e.g., assignments; quizzes/exams).
- Grading assessments and providing timely feedback to students (in collaboration with the course TA).
- Offering approximately 2 hours per week for student consultation; responding to student emails in a timely manner.
- Providing course content (e.g., syllabus, notes, grades) on Brightspace, Dalhousie’s learning management system.
- Maintaining a record of all student grades (including grades for each assessment component) in Brightspace, and ensuring timely submission of final letter grades to the registrar’s office.
Teaching occasionally requires work after the formal end point of a course (for example, in cases where a student has extenuating circumstances or academic accommodations that require a deferred final exam). If such cases arise, the Part-Time Academic must facilitate tying up loose ends, either by completing the work themselves, or by providing the necessary materials for the department to complete the work on their behalf (e.g., answer keys; Brightspace access).
This position reports to the Chair of the Department.
