Position Title: Food Service Production

Rate of pay: Probationary: $21.50 – After 480 Hours: $23.24 – After 2080 Hours: $26.03
Schedule: Full-time, 40 hours per week. Evenings and weekends may be required

Position Summary
The incumbent assembles, prepares, and serves food and beverage products and maintains cleanliness of the Food Services areas according to detailed procedures and assists in providing service to the students, the community and the guests of Victoria University. This role involves a combination of the duties listed below.
Duties:
Food Services
- Passion for food, beverage and hospitality
- Ability to communicate effectively with kitchen and team, strong organizational skills and attention to detail
- Bar service – alcoholic and non-alcoholic
- Event and catering service
- Greeting and serving guests
- Set up and clean down of service area
- Learn and understand food and beverage offering
- Assemble work area with appropriate products and equipment prior to mealtimes
- Assemble, prepare and serve food as per customer request, placing emphasis on customer service and portion control
- Prepare and finish simple food items as required; portion and wrap foods, package takeout foods
- Advises and provides information to customers, reporting any concerns to supervisor/lead hand
- Maintain stock levels by replenishing supplies from stock rooms
- Keep equipment and work area clean and sanitized according to recognized health, safety and sanitation guidelines
- Report any broken or malfunctioning equipment to the lead hand/supervisor on duty
- Clean up and remove all garbage
- Other duties as assigned
Cashier duties
- Record customer activity by scanning student T-card or keying student number into the POS database; enter guest transactions into the POS database
- Monitor flow of customer traffic reporting any problems promptly to lead hand/supervisor on duty; ensure the security of students during meal hours
- Retrieve reports from customer database as needed
- Ensure menu and any information signage is current and in good condition
- Other duties as assigned
Dishwasher
- Operate a commercial dish machine to wash dishes, glassware, and cutlery according to recognized occupational health and safety standards
- Clean and sanitize dishes, pots and pans
- Assist in unpacking and storing supplies in refrigerators, freezers, and storerooms
- Help deliver and recover food and supplies from functions
- Keep equipment and work area clean and sanitized according to recognized health, safety and sanitation guidelines
- At the end of the meal, remove kitchen garbage, recycling and composting and take to designated storage location
- Sweep and mop
- Report any broken or malfunctioning equipment to the lead hand/supervisor on duty
- Other duties as assigned
Porter duties
- Unpack and store supplies in refrigerators, freezers, and storerooms, using proper stock rotation procedures
- Reporting any deficiencies, shortages or damages in delivered goods to the Chef or First Cook
- Keep the refrigerators, freezers and storerooms clean and orderly
- Clear snow from entrances to Burwash Dining Hall
- Clean loading dock and composting storage cooler with high pressure sprayer
- Other duties as assigned
Qualifications Required:
Education
High school graduation or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Experience
Some Food Service experience is recommended but not required.
Other
Ability to maintain co-operative working relationships with staff, and customers. Ability to communicate effectively in English (oral and written). Physical ability to perform duties described and to use indicated equipment. Smart Serve Certification and WHMIS is an asset.
