Circulation/Reserve Assistant

Purpose:
The Circulation/Reserve Assistant role represents a key component of the Library's public persona. This multi-incumbent position is responsible for providing front-line circulation services at the circulation and reserves service points including responding to circulation related inquiries by telephone, email, virtually, in person and through the Libraries online system. This role also assists library users in using basic search techniques for known items by author and/or title and directs library users to appropriate library guides. In addition, this position addresses basic technology related issues and answers general and or directional questions related to library operations. This position also provides circulation support services.

Education:
High school diploma with some university level courses.

Experience:
Two years recent experience providing front-line public service in a high volume area and experience operating a computer terminal, including experience using an on-line records system. Some Library public service experience preferred.

Skills:
Basic keyboard skills to operate a computer terminal required. Accuracy essential. Micro computing skills: Microsoft Word (basic) and Microsoft Excel (basic). Knowledge of an on-line records system required. Demonstrated skill/ability in the following areas: working independently, dealing calmly, courteously and effectively with people. Good oral and written communication skills. Attending accurately to detail under pressure of high volume. Answering inquiries clearly and concisely. Good organization skills. Accuracy in handling of cash transactions, familiarity with cashiering functions.
