Based in Iqaluit, NU, and reporting to the Manager, Employee Relations, you will provide expert advice, training and guidance to departments handling employer/employee relations, grievances and disciplinary actions, which are critical aspects in the development and maintenance of a productive and harmonious working environment in GN departments, boards and agencies.
As an Employee Relations Consultant, you will recommend, through careful research, appropriate courses of action in complex employee/employer interactions, investigate employee/employer issues, resolve grievances at the final level prior to arbitration, as well as plan and organize cases for arbitration and Human Rights tribunals. Recognized for your expertise, you will also assist managers in disciplinary actions, provide guidance on the interpretation of collective agreements and human resource policies, and assist in implementing strategies to promote a positive working environment.
QUALIFICATIONS
Your profile as a qualified Employee Relations Consultant will include the following highlights:
- A degree from a recognized university in Industrial Relations, Business (with a Human Resources or Labour Relations major), Psychology, or Labour Law.
- A minimum of two (2) years’ directly related experience.
- Good research and analytical skills and abilities.
- Excellent communication skills, both orally and in writing.
- Acceptable combinations of education and experience may be considered for this position. We encourage you to apply if you have equivalent years of education and/or experience equal to the education and experience requirements listed above.
ASSETS:
- An in-depth knowledge of user departments, boards, and agencies in Nunavut.
- A good understanding of compensation policies and practices.
- The ability to communicate in French, one of Nunavut’s official languages (i.e., Inuktut, English and French).
- Knowledge of Inuit communities, culture and land, Inuit Qaujimajatuqangit, and Inuktut.
- Experience working in a northern cross-cultural environment.
Compensation & benefits: This indeterminate position is excluded from the Nunavut Employees Union and offers a salary range of $109,029 to $123,694 per annum (for 37.5 hours/week), plus a Northern Allowance of $16,008 per annum.Note: Subsidized staff housing is available.
