The City's Gender Equity Unit is a newly established team that will lead the development and implementation of a Gender Equity Strategy for advancing an intersectional gender-based lens into City programs, services, and internal workforce initiatives.
Reporting to the Management Consultant, you will support the development and implementation of the Gender Equity Strategy by bringing your knowledge and expertise in gender equity issues. You will manage assigned projects related to the creation, implementation and evaluation of this strategy. You will conduct focused research on women, girls, trans and non-binary issues, ensuring that such analysis takes into account lived experiences within the community, legislation and initiatives by other levels of government.
Making a positive impact on gender equity issues
Your duties will include supporting stakeholder engagement and consultation activities to contribute to the development of the City’s Gender Equity Strategy, and providing recommendations to internal stakeholders on applying an intersectional gender equity lens to programs, policies and services. Through data reporting and analysis you will monitor and evaluate the City’s progress in achieving gender equality in the delivery of its Strategy, while ensuring project expenditures are maintained within approved budget limitations.
Day-to-day excellence—both within your department and across teams
Making excellent use of your communication and organizational skills, you will develop Council reports, research existing and new tools, resources and methodologies to identify policy and program options. You will manage the planning, progress and completion of gender equity projects. Your interpersonal strengths will also play a role in this position by establishing networks and building strong relationships internally and externally with external agencies, community groups, educational institutions, and leaders on gender equity priorities.
Representing the Gender Equity Unit at corporate, intergovernmental, multi-sectoral and public meetings, you will develop stakeholder engagement activities and communication strategies that highlight the City’s corporate directions concerning the gender equity strategy and implementation. You will be involved in the preparation of the procurement process to select and hire external vendors when required.
Qualifications and Experience
As the Consultant, Equity and Diversity, you will bring this experience to the role:
Considerable experience in the development and implementation of equity, diversity, inclusion and/or gender equity initiatives, preferably in a large complex organization.
Considerable experience in service planning, project management and report writing.
Results Based Accountability experience, developing measurement tools and analyzing data to support programs and services, embedding a gender equality lens.
Considerable experience supporting the development of tools and resources to apply an intersectional gender lens to programs and services.
A post-secondary education in a professional discipline relevant to the job function such as Gender and Woman’s Studies, Sociology, Social Work, Business or combined equivalent of education and experience. Graduate degree in related field is an asset.
Understanding of the intersectional complexities of identity through a lens of anti-oppression, anti-racism, anti-Black racism, anti-Indigenous racism, gender identity and expression, and issues surrounding sexual violence.
Excellent communication skills with proficiency in developing reports, engaging presentations, and briefing notes for council and senior leadership.
Ability to collect, organize, test and analyze complex information with attention to detail and accuracy.
Highly developed quantitative and qualitative data reporting and analysis skills, with the ability to develop KPI's to effectively measure outcomes.
Effective stakeholder engagement and consultation skills with the ability to build effective networks, partnerships and alliances with internal and external stakeholders to achieve objectives.
Demonstrated critical thinking, analytical skills and political acumen in assessing and analysing issues pertaining to gender equity.
Project Management and/or change management certification is considered an asset.
Lived experience as a member of an Indigenous, Black or equity-seeking group is an asset.
