REPORTING TO: Director of Hotel Operations - D.P. Murphy Hotels

SALARY: Compensation commensurate with education and experience

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: Full Time / Seasonal - Days, Evenings & Weekends

LOCATION: Dalvay by the Sea, Prince Edward Island

POSITION DESCRIPTION:

Dalvay by the Sea is one of PEI’s most beautiful historic sites, complete with a rich and fascinating history. Since the summer of 1896, when the MacDonald family hosted their first party for the community, Dalvay by the Sea has been a staple in hospitality on the island.

In keeping with that tradition,_ The MacMillan Dining Room _is a full-service restaurant, offering our guests a relaxed fine dining experience at a Canadian National Heritage Site in a landmark Victorian home. We feature high-quality modern cuisine, with an emphasis on highlighting the island’s many fresh and local offerings.

We want to hear from you if you are an experienced Food & Beverage Manager with a passion for ensuring a memorable experience for our guests.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Manage operations for the MacMillan Dining Room, Lounge and Bar
  • In partnership with the Executive Chef, co-ordinate, plan and manage all dining room activities including reservations, special events, and catering
  • Collaborate with the Client Services Manager to provide outstanding hospitality experience for guests
  • Motivate and coach staff to work together as a team to ensure optimum service for our guests
  • Hire, train, schedule, and discipline employees
  • Monitor dining room for well-being of guests
  • Focus on improving budget performance in all areas
  • Monitor inventory and order all necessary supplies
  • Create and manage a successful wine list
  • Manage guest relations; address customer compliments and complaints
  • Maintain staff payroll information, directing the collection, calculation and entering of data
  • Execute all reasonable additional assignments determined by Management

JOB QUALIFICATIONS & REQUIREMENTS:

  • Diploma, Certificate or Degree in Food & Beverage, Hotel Management, or equivalent
  • 2-4 years’ experience in the same or a similar role
  • Professional demeanor and presentation; lively and energetic team leader
  • Attention to detail, takes initiative, has a hands-on approach
  • Thrives in a fast-paced environment; works well under pressure
  • Able to build positive rapport and communicate easily with both customers, colleagues and staff at all levels of seniority, as well as liaise effectively with other internal departments
  • Good interpersonal skills, ability to obtain information, determine course of action and follow through to successful resolution
  • Able to effectively manage personnel and meet financial targets and deadlines
  • Knowledgeable of provincial liquor laws and smart serve requirements
  • Working knowledge of various computer software programs
  • Fluent in English (Bilingualism would be an asset)

PHYSICAL ASPECTS OF POSITION (INCLUDES BUT IS NOT LIMITED TO):

This position requires the ability to:

  • Move, lift, carry, push, pull, and place objects weighing less than or equal to 50 pounds without assistance
  • Stand, sit, or walk for an extended period or for an entire work shift

WORK AUTHORIZATION:

  • Must have proof of eligibility to work in Canada
  • Note: Dalvay by the Sea is a seasonal operation
