About the Role
We are seeking a dedicated and experienced Food Safety & Quality Assurance Manager to oversee food safety and quality assurance at Haven Greens. This individual will report to the Chief Agricultural Officer and will be responsible for acquiring and maintaining CanadaGAP, HACCP, and SQF certifications and records. The QA Manager will work closely with our team to develop, implement, and maintain a formal food safety plan, ensuring that our greenhouse operations meet the highest standards of food safety and quality.
Responsibilities
- Food Safety Management: Develop, implement, and maintain food safety programs and records to achieve and uphold CanadaGAP, HACCP, and SQF certifications.
- Quality Assurance: Ensure that all products comply with regulatory requirements and quality standards through effective record-keeping and ongoing follow-up.
- Internal Audits: Conduct regular internal audits to monitor compliance with food safety standards and implement corrective actions as needed.
- Training: Provide food safety and quality assurance training to employees across various departments to ensure comprehensive understanding and adherence to standards.
- Collaboration: Work with cross-functional teams, including production, sanitation maintenance, and supply chain, to ensure quality protocols are followed and improvements are made.
- Customer Complaints: Address forwarded customer complaints related to food safety and quality, identify root causes, and implement corrective actions internally.
- Documentation: Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of all quality assurance activities, including monitoring, verification, and validation procedures.
- Regulatory Compliance: Ensure compliance with all relevant food safety regulations, including conducting inspections and liaising with regulatory agencies such as CFIA and FDA.
- Continuous Improvement: Identify opportunities for continuous improvement in food safety and quality assurance practices and implement necessary changes.
- Recall Process Management: Develop and oversee the product recall program, including tracking, communication, and reporting in the event of a product safety issue.
Qualifications
Must-Have:
- Bachelor’s degree in Food Science, Microbiology, or a related field
- 5+ years of experience in a quality assurance role within the food industry
- Proven experience in achieving and maintaining Canada GAP, HACCP, and SQF certifications
- Strong knowledge of food safety regulations and standards
- Effective communication skills for training and reporting
- Strong organizational and multitasking abilities
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment
- High attention to detail and accuracy
- Problem-solving abilities and a proactive mindset
Nice-to-Have:
- Experience in Controlled Environment Agriculture (CEA) or greenhouse operations
- Professional certifications related to food safety and quality assurance
- Experience with continuous improvement methodologies and tools
- Familiarity with statistical analysis and quality improvement techniques
