Reporting directly to the Manager, Policy, Heritage and Design, this position is responsible for leading policy studies related to the Town’s Official Plan, secondary plans, and growth management; and is responsible for the housing, employment, climate change land use, agricultural trends and aggregate/excess soils policy portfolios, as well as independently providing professional planning recommendations related to major, high profile planning applications. As the Senior Planner, Policy, you will perform the following duties, including but not limited to:
Conduct independent data collection, research and analysis on a range of planning issues and prepare reports concerning these issues
Project manage and prepare reports pertaining to policy planning initiatives including the Official Plan review
Coordinate public consultation programs pertaining to planning policy matters
Prepare budgets and work plans for policy projects and functions and assist with the preparation of division and departmental budgets and annual work programs regarding planning policy matters
Attend Council and other meetings, as required, to represent the department and the planning interests of the Town of Caledon
Review major planning initiatives and prepare/recommend a position to the Manager and the Director of Planning Act as the municipal representative on major external planning policy initiatives, including provincial, regional, inter-municipal and Conservation Authority initiatives
COVID-19: In consideration of the current pandemic and Public Health orders, the Town of Caledon is providing limited in-person services as Town Hall is open to the public by appointment only. The successful candidate for Senior Planner, Policywill be required to work a flexible schedule, including in the office, remotely and after hours (as required).
The Ideal Candidate
We are seeking a planning professional with training and knowledge in the above, normally acquired from a post-secondary degree in planning, or a closely related field. Our ideal candidate has 7 years of municipal planning experience and membership with, or eligibility for membership with, the Canadian Institute of Planners and/or Ontario Professional Planners Institute. Project management skills and knowledge of GIS would be considered assets.
The ideal candidate will have demonstrated knowledge and skills in the application and interpretation of the Planning Act and other relevant legislations, policies and guidelines. We are seeking an individual with strong quantitative analysis skills, and a demonstrated ability to analyze planning data and generate effective, efficient planning policies and reports. The ideal candidate will have demonstrated ability to work independently and produce thorough policy reports under time constraints.
This position offers a salary range of $87,033.66 - $102,374.76 plus a competitive benefit package.
