Position: Fire Protection Design Engineer

Structure: Contract 24 months to start
Pay: $70.00 - $80.00 p/h inc. + HST

Deliverables-
Provide technical leadership and engineering support for nuclear fire protection programs, ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements, fire protection standards, and site licence conditions throughout facility operations and maintenance.

Conduct fire hazard assessments, Fire Safe Shutdown Assessments, risk evaluations, and engineering reviews while developing technical recommendations, fire response strategies, procedures, and compensatory measures to maintain regulatory compliance.

Support the lifecycle management of fire protection systems, equipment, and emergency response capabilities by preparing technical specifications, supporting procurement and installation activities, reviewing designs, and coordinating field implementation.

Collaborate with internal stakeholders, regulatory agencies, emergency response organizations, and management to improve fire protection programs, develop standards and procedures, support CNSC correspondence, and drive continuous improvement initiatives.
Experience Required
-
6–8+ years of engineering experience supporting fire protection, fire safety engineering, nuclear operations, industrial facilities, or other highly regulated environments.

Bachelor's degree in Fire Protection Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Civil Engineering, or a related engineering discipline (or equivalent experience).

Strong knowledge of Fire Hazard Assessments (FHA), Fire Safe Shutdown Analysis (FSSA), National Building Code of Canada (NBCC), National Fire Code of Canada (NFCC), CSA N293, CSA N393, NFPA standards, and CNSC regulatory requirements applicable to nuclear facilities.

Proven experience developing engineering reports, technical specifications, procedures, fire protection standards, risk assessments, procurement documentation, regulatory submissions, and technical recommendations while supporting commissioning, operations, and maintenance activities.

Excellent analytical, communication, stakeholder management, and problem-solving skills with demonstrated ability to provide technical guidance, coordinate multidisciplinary teams, liaise with regulatory agencies, and improve fire protection processes within complex industrial environments.
