Mount Royal University’s Facilities Management department is responsible for the planning, development, construction, design, operation, maintenance, safety, security and stewardship of all the buildings, infrastructure, sites and services within Mount Royal's campus community. Mount Royal University is seeking an experienced Manager, Environmental Services to oversee key aspects of our campus facilities and event services. This role is responsible for managing cleaning services, waste management, shredding, and event setups across our vibrant university community. Working in partnership with internal and external clients, this position ensures all university buildings and outdoor spaces meet high standards, creating an inviting, well-coordinated environment for students, staff, and visitors.
Reporting to the Director of Facilities Operations, you’ll play a critical role in managing the Environmental Cleaning Services Contract, developing a quality assurance program, leading event setup coordination, and providing exceptional customer service. You will also assist with staffing and strategic planning for MRU’s event, theatre, and hospitality services. This is a hands-on role that requires regular engagement with the campus community and vendors to address and anticipate needs in a fast-paced, dynamic environment. This position is a full-time role working 35 hours per week.
Oversee MRU’s Environmental Cleaning Services Contract and other related service agreements, including waste management and shredding.
Develop and implement a quality assurance program, performing regular audits and addressing cleanliness issues to maintain standards.
Manage budgets for cleaning services, waste handling, and event support, totaling approximately $6 million annually.
Conduct workload studies using industry models (ISSA, APPA) and work closely with Procurement on contract RFPs and specifications.
Collaborate with the event service provider to plan and execute setups for university events, including indoor and outdoor gatherings, filming, and photography.
Coordinate and oversee high-profile events like Convocation, managing setup logistics and aesthetic alignment with event objectives.
Manage the inventory, allocation, and control of event-related furniture and equipment, ensuring optimal functionality and appearance.
Serve as the main contact for event organizers, understanding and meeting event requirements and addressing any facility-related needs.
Collaborate with Facilities, IT, and contracted teams to deliver responsive, high-quality service and foster strong working relationships with campus departments and clients.
Provide leadership to direct reports, such as the Events Coordinator, fostering a safe and collaborative work environment.
Support team development through coaching, feedback, and succession planning, ensuring staff are equipped to meet evolving campus needs.
Develop, forecast, and monitor budgets related to all aspects of cleaning, waste management, event services, and supplies.
Maintain accurate event records, including scheduling, resource allocation, and billing reconciliation for contracted services.
Ensure compliance with Alberta Occupational Health and Safety standards, incorporating MRU’s internal safety practices across all services.
Bachelor’s degree in a related field (or equivalent combination of education and experience, such as a Trades or Business Administration certificate plus relevant facility management experience).
6+ years in environmental services or facilities management, including leadership in contract administration, event planning, and budget management.
Strong organizational and problem-solving skills with a proven ability to manage multiple, concurrent priorities.
Excellent interpersonal, communication, and customer service skills, with a collaborative approach to stakeholder engagement.
Demonstrated commitment to Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion (EDI) with practical application experience.
Strong financial acumen with experience in managing and reporting on significant budgets.
Familiarity with hazardous material management, and knowledge of IFMA, BOMI, or APPA standards is an asset.

Salary: Starts at $92,847.00 - 110,487.00 per annum
