Occupational Health and Safety Coordinator
Location: Conception Bay South, NL
Position Type: Full-Time
Hours: 40 hours per week
Wage: $18.50 per hour
Position Summary
We are seeking a dedicated and knowledgeable Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) Coordinator to oversee and maintain the Occupational Health and Safety Program at a seniors’ personal care home in Conception Bay South, Newfoundland and Labrador. The successful candidate will play a key role in promoting a safe and healthy work environment for employees, residents, and visitors while ensuring compliance with provincial occupational health and safety legislation and standards.
Key Responsibilities
· Administer and oversee the facility’s Occupational Health and Safety Program.
· Ensure compliance with Newfoundland and Labrador Occupational Health and Safety legislation, regulations, and best practices.
· Coordinate, schedule, and maintain records of all staff education, orientation programs, and mandatory training.
· Organize and document regular fire drills and emergency preparedness exercises.
· Monitor employee hiring requirements, including required certifications, training, immunization records, and other employment-related documentation.
· Maintain employee files and ensure all required records are current and complete.
· Assist with incident reporting, investigations, corrective actions, and follow-up procedures.
· Conduct workplace inspections and identify opportunities for safety improvements.
· Support management and staff in promoting a culture of safety throughout the organization.
· Perform general filing, record management, and clerical duties related to occupational health and safety and human resources functions.
Qualifications
· Demonstrated knowledge of Occupational Health and Safety legislation and standards in Newfoundland and Labrador.
· Previous experience in an Occupational Health and Safety, Human Resources, administrative, or related role.
· Strong organizational, record-keeping, and administrative skills.
· Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities.
· Proficiency with Microsoft Office and electronic record-keeping systems.
· Ability to work independently and maintain confidentiality.
· Experience in a healthcare, long-term care, personal care home, or seniors’ care environment is considered an asset.
Requirements
· Knowledge of Newfoundland and Labrador Occupational Health and Safety regulations is required.
· Previous Occupational Health and Safety experience is required.
· Ability to obtain and maintain a satisfactory Criminal Record and Vulnerable Sector Check.
