NATURE OF WORK

The principal and customary work of the employee in this employment class consists of performing administrative functions of a relatively complex nature according to established methods and procedures, and clerical functions related to the activities of the employee’s area.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Assists with the bi-weekly payroll for all employees and generates the necessary reports and payments;
  • Verifies that government and college rules, regulations and contracts are adhered to in the processing of the pay;
  • Verifies and processes payroll documents from College departments, e.g.: salaries, budget codes, deductions, calculations, and reconciles as needed;
  • Completes data entry of payroll documents, such as timesheets, short term employment contracts, substitution forms, etc.;
  • Assists in the verifications of hiring entries by HR staff;
  • Processes salary modifications and adjustments, retroactivity, and vacation deferrals;
  • Generates salary estimates when required;
  • Maintains and reconciles different lists for payroll purposes;
  • Prepares payments to government offices, financial institutions and employees as required;
  • Maintains and reconciles different lists of employees for payroll purposes;
  • Maintains filing;
  • Assists or replaces colleagues during vacation period or when needed;
  • Provides employee support for time management
  • Performs other related tasks.

October 2019 to May 2020

Requirements :
QUALIFICATIONS

To have a diploma of vocational studies (DEP) with appropriate specialty or a secondary school diploma (DES) or have a diploma or an attestation of studies which is recognized as equivalent by the College and have at least one (1) year of pertinent experience in payroll.

CONDITIONS

  • Proven knowledge of payroll calculations, processes and governmental requirements;
  • Experience generating payroll reports;
  • Advanced oral and written communication in English (testing may be required);
  • Intermediate French oral and written communication (testing may be required);
  • Strong customer service oriented in approach, capable of quickly adapting to changing circumstances;
  • Capable of multi-tasking and dealing with rigid deadlines imposed by internal/external parties;
  • Accounting experience would be an asset;
  • Experience working in an unionized environment;
  • Basic knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel (testing may be required);
  • Able to maintain department standards with respect to the confidentiality of information.
