Job Overview
We are seeking a motivated and dependable Mechanic Helper to join our maintenance team. This entry-level position provides an excellent opportunity to gain hands-on experience in mechanical systems and equipment repair. Mechanical Helper is responsible to support the shop mechanics with the maintenance and repair of heavy-duty trucks and trailers. This position is responsible for preparing tools and parts, assisting with repairs, performing basic maintenance, keeping the shop clean and organized, and learning mechanical skills while working alongside experienced technicians.
Duties
- Assist mechanics with truck and trailer repairs and preventive maintenance.
- Retrieve parts, tools, and shop supplies as required.
- Help with tire removal, installation, repairs, and wheel changes.
- Perform oil changes, grease jobs, filter replacements, and fluid top-ups.
- Inspect trucks and trailers for lights, tires, leaks, and visible defects.
- Clean trucks, trailers, tools, and the shop work area.
- Assist with brake jobs, suspension work, and other repairs under supervision.
- Help remove and install truck and trailer components.
- Organize parts inventory and keep work areas clean and safe.
- Load and unload parts and supplies.
- Follow all shop safety procedures and wear required PPE.
- Learn proper repair procedures and apply them under the guidance of licensed mechanics.
- Complete other shop duties assigned by the Lead Mechanic or Shop Supervisor.
Qualifications
- Ability to lift 50–75 lbs.
- Valid Class 5 Driver's Licence is an asset.
- Good communication and teamwork skills.
- Reliable, punctual, and safety conscious.
- Ability to maintain a clean and organized work environment.
Experience:
- Previous shop, mechanical, tire, or labour experience is an asset.
- Basic knowledge of hand and power tools.
- Willingness to learn heavy-duty truck and trailer maintenance.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and follow instructions.
