We have an exciting opportunity for a Parts Person to join our team based out of the Wapiti Gravel Suppliers shop. This is a 12-month term position, with possibility of becoming permanent. The parts person is responsible for the purchasing and distribution of equipment parts, fuel, lubricants, and shop and maintenance supplies for the west division shop, plants and crew work site. Additionally, this role is responsible for the tracking and data entry of parts invoices and preventative maintenance information.
Key Responsibilities
- Purchase parts and supplies at the request of managers, superintendents, mechanics, and plant operators.
- Shop and compare the prices of parts, fuels, lubricants and other necessary items across vendors, ensuring quality parts are purchased at the best available price.
- Input invoices after purchase orders are received and accounted for.
- Input purchase orders for parts, equipment, or supply requests.
- Input preventative maintenance events.
- Assist in the loading and unloading of parts from delivery vehicles, using loader when needed.
- Assist in delivering or picking up parts, vehicles and equipment when needed, or schedule the delivery or pick up of parts, vehicles and equipment where necessary.
- Direct parts and delivery drivers to appropriate locations for deliveries and pick-ups.
- Keep shop inventory and stock room in an orderly manner.
- Conduct regular inventory assessment, including a yearly stock inventory inspection.
- Assist other employees in the performance of their duties.
- Must ensure a solid understanding of, and comply with the principles of the company’s Code of Ethics.
- Must examine situations in light of the principles of the Code of Ethics
- Other related duties as required.
Qualifications
Education, Training and Certifications
- High School Diploma or G.E.D. preferred.
- Journeyman Parts Technician trade ticket preferred.
- Skid steer, overhead crane, and standard first aid preferred.
- Class 5 Drivers License.
Work Experience
- 4 years’ experience in an equipment shop
Technical Knowledge
- Knowledge equipment parts and road construction equipment
- Knowledge of JD Edwards and Microsoft Office applications is a definite asset.

Working Conditions
- Work is located in town, with occasional local travel during business hours.
- Use of and responsibility for company vehicle, fuel card and purchase order books may be required.
- Overtime as required.
- A portion of work is performed in an indoor setting and may include a combination of standing, sitting and walking. Sitting for extended periods of time is required.
- A portion of work is performed in an outdoor setting (equipment yard), which could include inclement weather, heat and humidity, and exposure to dust and asphalt.
- Must be physically able to repetitively lift and carry at least 50 LBS on a regular basis.
- Use of Personal Protection Equipment is required.
- Due to exposure to atmospheric conditions, the use of sunscreen, long sleeves, and appropriate headgear is recommended Must comply with the company’s drug and alcohol policy and testing requirements.
- Manual dexterity required to use computer and peripherals
