Position Summary
Registration & Records Officer, Admitting & Patient Registration
Your goal in this position is to perform all clerical activities required for the security and maintenance of patient records. This position may also be required to support the registration of patients into the NYGH patient care system (Cerner). This position supports the Hospital’s academic mandate by advancing care through teaching and learning and/or transforming care through research and innovation. This position contributes to the shared responsibility of ensuring health and safety policies are followed to provide for a healthy environment for staff, physicians, volunteers, learners, patients and families.
On a practical level, you will

Register patients in order to collect and document information required for use throughout the Hospital

Chart retrieval and processing for discharged patients

Chart assembly after physician completion and performing final quantitative analysis

Perform ongoing quality audits on charts and processes
-
Accurately file and retrieve patients’ health records on request for ongoing patient care, research projects and audits, etc.

File charts and loose reports within acceptable time limits

Work safely in accordance with the Occupational Health and Safety Act

Ongoing updating of patient demographics as required

Collection of payment for appliances and noninsured services

Perform other duties as assigned
Qualifications
-
Completion of your Ontario Secondary School Diploma, required
-
Current enrolment or graduation from a Health Information Management Program an asset

Knowledge of medical terminology, required
-
Previous Health Records experience within a computerized healthcare setting preferred

Accurate keyboarding skills essential, minimum speed 45 w.p.m
-
Must be able to work effectively in a team environment
-
Excellent command of spoken and written English
-
Ability to prioritize and work under pressure
-
Demonstrated strong interpersonal skills and ability to communicate well with the public and staff

Microsoft Office skills to the level required for the job

Bilingualism in French/English an asset
