Position Summary
Bay Steel Inc. is seeking a hardworking and safety-focused Labourer to support our welding, mechanical, fabrication, construction, tank maintenance, and industrial service operations. The Labourer will assist tradespeople and equipment operators with various tasks in shop and field environments while maintaining a safe, clean, and productive worksite.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist welders, pipefitters, mechanics, and other trades personnel.
- Load, unload, and move materials, tools, and equipment.
- Prepare work areas, including setup and cleanup of job sites.
- Operate hand and power tools safely and effectively.
- Assist with tank cleaning, confined space entry support, and industrial maintenance activities.
- Perform general labour duties including digging, lifting, carrying, grinding, and material handling.
- Support rigging and lifting operations under supervision.
- Maintain housekeeping standards in the shop and at project sites.
- Assist with equipment maintenance and inspections.
- Follow all company safety procedures, policies, and site-specific requirements.
- Participate in safety meetings, toolbox talks, and training programs.
- Complete assigned documentation and inspection forms as required.
- Travel to customer sites throughout Newfoundland and Labrador as required.
QualificationsRequired
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Valid Class 5 driver's license.
- Ability to perform physically demanding work in various weather conditions.
- Strong work ethic and willingness to learn.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Commitment to workplace safety.
Assets
- WHMIS Certification.
- Occupational Health & Safety Certification.
- Confined Space Entry Certification.
- Fall Protection Certification.
- Power Line Hazards Certification.
- First Aid Certification.
- Experience in industrial, construction, welding, mechanical, or fabrication environments.
- Experience operating forklifts, skid steers, telehandlers, or other equipment.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs regularly.
- Ability to stand, walk, bend, climb, kneel, and work at heights.
- Ability to work in industrial environments, confined spaces, and outdoor conditions.
- Ability to wear required personal protective equipment (PPE).
Working Conditions
- Shop and field-based work.
- Overtime and weekend work may be required.
- Travel and out-of-town assignments may be required.
- Exposure to industrial construction, fabrication, maintenance, and repair environments.
Pay: $18.00-$24.00 per hour
