SUMMARY OF FUNCTIONS
This position reports to the Specialist, Creative Services and is responsible for developing and coordinating communications materials that professionally reflect CVC’s brand and visual approach while increasing the awareness of the goals and objectives of Credit Valley Conservation. The position will create, maintain and provide support in the development of print, electronic and web-related communications materials. This position is responsible for developing, maintaining, educating and providing support to staff on divisional and corporate Marketing and Communication’s tools and resources including the corporate visual brand. The position will also provide internal communications support.
ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENT

Degree/diploma or equivalent in graphic, web or multimedia design

Training in Accessible Communications and Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act (AODA) an asset

Minimum 3 years related experience in the field and advanced knowledge of Adobe Creative Cloud

Experience in corporate branding, layout, colour theory and typography in both print and digital media
Knowledge, Skills and Ability

Demonstrated ability to produce both print and web-related communications materials, as well as design fresh and innovative concepts.

Solid understanding of client deliverables and ability to take responsibility for coordinating design, production and delivery of multiple products between various groups (clients, consultants, partners) within tight timelines under minimal supervision.

Ability to work independently and effectively manage multiple projects/tasks of varying complexities, meet deadlines and work well under pressure.

Must be experienced in creating custom illustrations and infographics.

Knowledge of pre-press file preparation.

Knowledge of WordPress, basic HTML and CSS.

Ability to work effectively in a team and accept constructive criticism.

Strong attention to detail with excellent proof-reading, trouble-shooting and problem-solving abilities.

Excellent organizational and interpersonal skills.

Familiarity of legislation that applies to graphic design and digital communications and websites such as Accessibility with Ontarians with Disabilities Act (AODA), copyright, etc.

Knowledge of latest web trends, usability and user interface design.

Knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word, PowerPoint, Outlook).

Writing skills.

Experience with recording video and video editing an asset.

Experience with photography, including SLR and event photography an asset.

Knowledge of PHP, MySQL and Google Analytics an asset.

Knowledge of Mailchimp and social media an asset.
SUMMARY OF MAJOR TASKS
-
Apply design principles (page layout, colour theory, typography etc.) to both print and digital media to illustrate and communicate concepts, themes and programs. Ensure that creative elements are in line with CVC’s brand requirements by following prescribed guidelines and that final products comply with AODA standards.

Create custom illustrations and transform scientific data and other ideas and concepts into engaging graphics, diagrams and infographics for print, web, socials and swag.

Test and remediate digital content for accessibility.

Prepare files for print.

Source vendors, obtain quotes and provide project details to vendors.

Contribute to developing and updating CVC’s visual brand and guidelines, including corporate templates for staff use.

Research best practices and legislative requirements related to design and communications (such as AODA, copyright) to write and maintain divisional and corporate guidelines, tools and resources.

Meet with and educate clients (staff) on divisional and corporate guidelines, tools and resources such as AODA, brand and photo library guidelines and ensure compliance and brand adherence as needed.

Using WordPress, apply latest web trends and usability principles/techniques and accessible guidelines to update and maintain corporate websites.

Develop graphics for web and social media that meet brand requirements.

Develop new ways to keep Communication’s products looking current/fresh while maintaining corporate branding.

Meet and collaborate with marketing staff and clients and make recommendations on best ways to convey a message through design. Translate ideas/design requests into visual products and offer advice on best ways to communicate a message (e.g., which medium to use, photos, colour choice, layout etc).

Source vendors, obtain quotes and provide project details to vendors.

Develop and maintain processes to organize a CVC photo library.

Act as back-up photographer and videographer for events, staff, conservation areas and other landscapes, indoor/outdoor, candid/posed, etc.

Complete post-production for video and photos and upload to appropriate platforms when the Web and Graphic Designer is not available.

Provide image files to staff, partners, and public upon request.

Ensure copyright, AODA and privacy laws are followed.

Perform various administrative tasks as required.
