School District No. 64 (Gulf Islands) invites applications for a 0.7500 FTE Temporary position for a School Counsellor for elementary schools on Salt Spring Island, B.C., located in the Strait of Georgia between Vancouver and Victoria. The effective date is September 1, 2026 until June 30, 2027 or the return of the incumbent. (). The salary range for this position is $75,841 - $116,190
Role/Duties and Responsibilities:

Support students' academic, social and emotional well-being within an educational setting
-
Provide social skills training to students as required, promoting personal and social development appropriate to developmental stages

Provide appropriate prevention and intervention services/instruction to individuals and classes to support behavioural, social-emotional needs or any other school-related issues

Work in consultation with Case Managers in the development and implementation of Individual Education Plans for students who require additional supports
- Serve as a member of the school's Critical Incident Response Team
- Serve as a member of the School-based Team

Complete and submit monthly and year-end reports/summaries as required

Work collaboratively with parents, staff, administration, community groups, and outside agencies in support of students

Work within the established district and community agency referral processes

Attend District Inclusive Education staff meetings when appropriate

Support the work of the school toward the achievement of growth plan goals

Provide and support student learning in areas such as peer helping, conflict resolution, social skills, and life skills
-
Participate in and facilitate professional development with an ongoing commitment to learn and implement new methodologies and strategies
Necessary Qualifications:
Documented evidence of:

BC Ministry of Education Teaching Certificate
-
Master's degree in Educational Counselling
-
Experience as an elementary school counsellor
- Strong background in conflict resolution, mediation, restorative practice and counselling

Training in non-violent crisis intervention
-
Experience developing and implementing effective strategies to assist teachers and parents in working with students with various challenges
-
Experience in meeting the diverse educational, behavioural, social and emotional needs of students through a trauma-informed practice
