Job Overview
- WTC Group is an industry leader in specialty grain and crop logistics in BC and across Canada. As part of our long-term growth strategy, we have expanded our logistics warehouse operation in Port Coquitlam. We are looking for an organized, hardworking, and safety-conscious shunt driver to support our yard operations in a fast-paced work environment.
Job Responsibilities
- Operating a shunt truck to move trailers and containers between the yard and warehouse dock doors as well as between different parts of the storage yard.
- Reviewing incoming and outgoing transportation equipment for damages and other possible problems, ensuring that warehouse work can safely take place, or shunting a replacement unit while repairs or servicing can occur.
- Utilizing RF scanning equipment as well as manually tracking the location of trailers, containers and chassis in congested yard space adapting to changing workflow patterns.
- Knowledge of all safety measures relating to shunt truck operation and performing pre- and post-shift inspections for damage to vehicles, tire condition, fuel or other safety issues.
- Opening and closing container and trailer doors, in addition to cutting bolt seals and then safely storing or recycling the bolt seal pieces, as necessary.
- Complying with all yard safety rules, PPE requirements (hard hat, hi-vis vests, steel toes and gloves when necessary), guidelines and relevant legislation.
- Possible future line-haul work between WTC facilities or other intermodal sites depending on yard work volume and other priorities.
Skills, Abilities, and Qualifications
- High School Diploma or equivalent is required.
- Class 1 Drivers License and clean drivers abstract is preferred.
- Working comprehension of English with an ability to understand load planning and other important shipping documents; communicating orally with dispatchers, other shunt drivers and warehouse personnel when needed.
- Excellent organizational, time- and yard-management skills.
- Ability to work independently as well as a part of different cross-functional teams.
Work Environment
- Yard work and possible warehouse work that may include indoor and outdoor duties in various climates, temperatures and changing weather conditions.
- Noise and vibration from warehouse machinery, railroad equipment, and/or heavy trucks and transport.
- Dust and dirt that may include grain particulate as well as organic and inorganic odors.
