Field Technician - Pipeline Leak Detection
Alberta | $22–$28/hour | Paid Training | Travel Throughout Alberta | No Experience Necessary
Looking for a summer job that's anything but ordinary?
At K9 Leak Hunters, we help natural gas utilities keep their pipeline networks safe by combining advanced gas detection technology with one of Alberta's few professionally trained K9 gas leak detection teams.
We're looking for one or two motivated Pipeline Field Technicians to join our team this summer.
No previous pipeline or leak detection experience is required—we'll train the right person. If you're dependable, enjoy working outdoors, and want to gain valuable hands-on experience in Alberta's energy industry, we'd love to hear from you.
This is an active, physically demanding position. Most days involve hiking pipeline rights-of-way, walking 10+ km over uneven terrain, working in rural environments, and spending the majority of the day outdoors in varying weather conditions. If you're looking for an easy indoor summer job, this probably isn't the right fit.
Working directly with the owner of K9 Leak Hunters, you'll assist with routine pipeline leak surveys, integrity inspections, and line walking projects across Alberta. You'll also have the unique opportunity to work alongside K9 Nala, our highly trained gas leak detection dog, while learning how specialized technology helps protect critical energy infrastructure.
What You'll Be Doing
- Walk natural gas pipeline rights-of-way and utility easements.
- Assist with routine leak surveys and pipeline integrity inspections.
- Inspect natural gas meters and related infrastructure.
- Operate professional leak detection equipment (training provided).
- Record field observations using a smartphone.
- Identify and report hazards or abnormal conditions.
- Communicate professionally with landowners while accessing private property.
- Travel throughout Alberta to various project locations.
- Follow company safety procedures and industry best practices at all times.
What We're Looking For
We're looking for people who are:
- Reliable and show up ready to work.
- Comfortable working outdoors all day.
- Physically capable of walking 10+ km per day over uneven terrain.
- Positive, self-motivated, and eager to learn.
- Detail-oriented and able to follow procedures.
- Professional when interacting with customers and landowners.
- Able to work independently and as part of a small team.
