The Opportunity
Reporting directly to the Manager, Purchasing & Risk Management this role is responsible for managing claim files and assisting with the overall daily functions of claims and risk management for the Town, in collaboration with staff, including investigating claims, gathering evidence and making recommendations for denial or settlement of claims. As the Coordinator, Risk Management, you will perform the following duties, including but not limited to:
Managing claims from inception to conclusion including handling public complaints, adjudicating claims and offering claim settlement where warranted.
Review vendor certificates of insurance for various Town departments
Handling of claims process involving a claimant, adjuster, external legal firms, and insurer to ensure timely processing of claims along with professional customer service
Identifying potential liability and risk exposures, including claim trends and prepare recommendations for changes through bi-annual presentations to Manager, Purchasing & Risk Management
COVID-19: In consideration of the current pandemic and Public Health orders, the Town of Caledon is providing limited in-person services as Town Hall is open to the public by appointment only. The successful candidate for Coordinator, Risk Management will be required to work a flexible schedule, including in the office, remotely and after hours (as required).
The Ideal Candidate
We are seeking a motivated professional with training and/or knowledge in the above, normally acquired from a post-secondary degree in risk management, business administration or legal, or closely related field. Our ideal candidate also has certification in General Insurance Essentials (GIE).
The ideal candidate will have demonstrated customer service excellence that reflects Caledon’s quality standards: accurate, courteous, responsive and easy to navigate. We are seeking an individual with superior interpersonal skills, a demonstrated ability to make decisions involving multiple routine tasks, and computer proficiency in MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook), with knowledge of Tomrims filing system.
This position offers an hourly rate of $34.84.
Satisfactory passing of a criminal record check, and proof of qualifications will be required of any successful candidate(s) for this position.
