Job Summary: The Inbound/Outbound Planner will be responsible for coordinating and managing the inbound and outbound logistics operations for auto parts shipments. This role involves planning, scheduling, and overseeing the transportation of goods to ensure optimal efficiency and customer satisfaction, specifically for General Motors and Chrysler.
Key Responsibilities:
- Schedule and Plan Weekly Loads: Develop and implement weekly load plans based on requirements provided by Customer Service Representatives (CSR) for General Motors and Chrysler.
- Monitor and Adjust Loads: Monitor and plan any additions or cancellations of loads by CSR/customers and adjust plans accordingly.
- Dispatch Assets: Plan and dispatch assets in a timely manner to meet customer expectations.
- Utilize Company Assets: Ensure 100% utilization of company assets (trucks/trailers).
- Truck Staffing: Ensure all trucks are manned and report daily if any trucks are unmanned to the team lead on a weekly basis.
- Trailer Pool Management: Maintain and manage the required trailer pool at customer locations and provide daily reports.
- Backhaul Planning: Review and plan backhauls required for trucks and inform the open board team accordingly.
- Communication with CSR: Maintain good communication with CSR for any updates or critical shipments.
- Issue Resolution: Attend phone calls from drivers/staff and resolve any ongoing issues.
- Idle Trailer Management: Review idle trailer reports daily and plan to move any asset idle for more than 4 days on a weekly basis.
- Lane Schedule Compliance: Ensure planning is done as per the lane schedule; any additions or cancellations need to be confirmed by CSR.
- Freight Shortage Reporting: Review and report shortages of freight for company drivers and owner-operators.
- Asset Parking: Ensure all company assets are parked in the company facility; no driver should take trucks home.
- Waiting Time Management: Ensure Driver Managers (DM) advise CSR of any waiting time at shippers/receivers.
- Driver Manager Performance: Ensure Driver Managers are performing their job duties properly.
- 8x8 App Usage: Ensure Driver Managers are using the 8x8 app and logging into the queue daily.
- Avoid Expedited Loads: Avoid any expedited or late loads and penalties.
- Reduce Empty Miles: Reduce empty miles for assets by effective planning.
- On-Time Load Planning: Ensure all loads are planned on time; maintain a scorecard for General Motors.
- Weekly Mileage Reports: Provide weekly mileage reports as per asset planning.
- Accesorial Charges: Ensure all accesorial charges are mentioned in the order notes if required.
- Rack Trailer Consolidation: Consolidate rack trailers and provide weekly reports.
- Breakdown Recovery: Plan recovery for any breakdown trucks.
- Timely Email Responses: Reply to emails from accounting and safety in a timely manner.
- Breakdown and Unmanned Trucks Reporting: Provide a list of breakdown and unmanned trucks by Friday every week.
- Service Department Coordination: Work closely with the service department for any truck/trailer repairs.
- Customs Clearance: Ensure all customs are cleared for trucks that are dispatched but yet to depart from the yard.
- Daily Shift Reports: Send daily shift reports to the team lead/manager.
- POD Issues Assistance: Assist accounting if any issues with Proof of Delivery (PODs).
- Driver Camera Compliance: Ensure no drivers are blocking cameras while driving.
- Driver Relations: Maintain a good relationship with the drivers.
- GM Protocol Compliance: Ensure all drivers are following GM protocols while dropping trailers at GM plants or shippers.
- Lane-wise Trailer Reports: Maintain lane-wise trailer reports as per bid.
Qualifications:
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Logistics, Supply Chain Management, Business Administration, or a related field.
- Experience: Minimum of 3 years of experience in logistics planning, preferably in the automotive industry.
- Skills:
- Strong organizational and planning skills
- Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities
- Proficiency in logistics software and Microsoft Office Suite
- Analytical and problem-solving skills
- Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines
- Certifications: Relevant certifications in logistics or supply chain management are a plus.
