The Department of Medicine, Division of Palliative Care has an opportunity for a part time (up to 0.5 FTE) Palliative Care physician at Cowichan District Hospital in Duncan and the surrounding community of 80,000 people.
The Cowichan District Hospital, a 110-bed acute care facility, enjoys an exceptionally collegial atmosphere amongst the general and specialty medical staff.
Plans are underway for a new community 7-bed Hospice for 2020.
The successful candidate will work as member of the Cowichan Valley multidisciplinary palliative care team to provide consultative support in the acute, home, and long-term care settings. Additionally they will support generalist palliative care providers with advice, education and mentoring opportunities.
The successful candidate will hold CCFP and will have completed the year of competency program in palliative medicine and will have acquired the Certificate of Added Competence (CAC) through the College of Family Physicians of Canada, or hold a minimum of four years palliative care consultant experience. Additional certification in GP Oncology is required.
Cowichan District Hospital is affiliated with the University of British Columbia (UBC) and the Island Medical Program. Involvement in the undergraduate and postgraduate teaching program is a requirement of the position.
