Position Purpose and Summary
The Executive Director of Online Learning Operations (the “ED”) provides inspirational and visionary leadership to the advancement of Trinity Western University’s (“TWU’s”) online educational initiatives. The ED is responsible to scale TWU’s online programs delivered locally and globally by collaborating with internal stakeholders and external partners to enhance existing online courses and programs as well as launching new online initiatives. The ED is responsible to keep current with research-based best practices in online higher education and to implement effective strategies to deliver online programs that incorporate a transformational educational experience that TWU is known for. S/he will possess the commitment, personal characteristics, insights and abilities of an effective administrative and organizational leader.

Key Areas of Accountability

1. Online Leadership
As a thought leader in online learning, provides vision and leadership for advancing the online program offerings at TWU. Leverages best practices in learning modalities to design a framework that supports blended and fully online learning to optimize learning outcomes. Provides oversight and ongoing development of a team of online specialists to achieve growth goals set by the Executive Leadership Team (“ELT”).

2. Team Management
Leads the Online Team together with cross-functional team members to operationalize the University’s online strategic goals. The Online Team provides a centralized approach to the provision of online program development support and online learning support. The cross-functional team includes members from other departments (e.g., marketing, recruitment, business analytics, and Student Life) that are accountable to the ED.

3. Business Management
Provides innovative leadership in achieving the online financial goals set by the ELT. Works to identify and realize market opportunities. Provides leadership in managing an online program model that meets academic quality expectations while achieving financial goals.

4. Online Program Development/Assessment
Works with Deans and Graduate Directors to identify programs that would be strategic to offer online. Leads the Online Team in providing excellent support to faculty in developing online courses. Is responsible to ensure that programs are designed in a manner that enables the content provided by the program area to meet the expectations set by the University Senate in terms of achieving Student Learning Outcomes and quality standards. Ensures that a schedule of regular course refreshment is maintained.

5. Online Program Support
Provides oversight of all aspects of online learning support services. Works collaboratively with the Office of Teaching and Learning in developing effective strategies for faculty professional learning in relation to online instruction.

  • Understanding of the functionality of Learning Management Systems and alternative electronic delivery methods with attention of curriculum alignment and quality assessment.

Works with: Vice Provosts, Faculty and School Deans, Program Directors and Department Chairs, Leaders of non-academic units.

Standards & Requirements

Education: Master’s Degree required. Doctoral degree an asset.
Experience: The ideal candidate will have an outstanding record of successfully leading a team to achieve growth goals in online higher education.
