Our client, a well-established food manufacturing company in Markham, is seeking an experienced and hands-on HR Generalist to lead all aspects of the Human Resources function. This is a standalone role responsible for managing the full employee lifecycle, supporting both hourly manufacturing employees and office staff, while partnering closely with leadership to build a positive, compliant, and high-performing workplace.
The ideal candidate is a proactive HR professional who thrives in a fast-paced manufacturing environment and is comfortable balancing strategic initiatives with day-to-day HR operations.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage the full-cycle recruitment process for production, warehouse, quality, maintenance, and office positions, including sourcing, interviewing, hiring, and onboarding.
- Coordinate and facilitate new hire orientation, onboarding, and employee documentation.
- Process payroll and administer employee benefits, ensuring accuracy and compliance with company policies and employment standards.
- Serve as the primary point of contact for employee relations matters, performance management, workplace investigations, and conflict resolution.
- Advise managers on HR best practices, employee performance, disciplinary actions, and policy interpretation.
- Maintain accurate employee records and HRIS data while preparing regular HR reports and workforce metrics.
- Ensure compliance with the Employment Standards Act (ESA), Occupational Health and Safety Act (OHSA), Human Rights Code, WSIB requirements, and other applicable legislation.
- Develop, update, and implement HR policies, procedures, and employee handbooks.
- Coordinate training initiatives, performance reviews, employee development, and succession planning.
- Support attendance management, leave administration, accommodations, and return-to-work programs.
- Partner with leadership to drive employee engagement, retention initiatives, and organizational development.
- Lead HR projects and continuous improvement initiatives that enhance HR processes and employee experience.
- Support workplace health and safety initiatives alongside operational leadership.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field.
- CHRP or CHRL designation is considered a strong asset.
- 2+ years of progressive Human Resources experience, preferably within a food manufacturing or manufacturing environment.
- Experience managing the full employee lifecycle, including recruitment, onboarding, payroll, employee relations, and compliance.
- Strong knowledge of Ontario employment legislation, including ESA, OHSA, Human Rights Code, and WSIB.
- Experience with HRIS and payroll systems such as ADP, Dayforce, Ceridian, Workday, or similar platforms.
- Strong organizational and time management skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities independently.
- Excellent interpersonal, communication, and conflict-resolution skills.
- High level of professionalism, discretion, and attention to detail.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel, Word, and Outlook.
