Contract / Project-Based | Toronto | $25–$60/hour depending on skill set and scope
Overview
Medusa Entertainment is looking for a creative, detail-oriented Costume Makers / Rhinestone & Embellishment Artists to work with us on a project-by-project basis.
We're also looking for someone with costume-construction skills who can take our creative direction and references and figure out how to physically make an idea work.
Our work is inspired by dancewear, stagewear, fashion and theatre, and we're looking for someone comfortable constructing performance pieces using stretch fabrics. Experience working with non-traditional materials and fabrication techniques is a major bonus.
Responsibilities
- Rhinestone and embellish existing costumes, bodysuits, props and accessories
- Work with crystals, appliqués, trims, chains, hardware and other embellishments
- Construct custom performance costumes from references and creative direction
- Work confidently with spandex, mesh and other stretch fabrics
- Develop practical construction solutions for creative or unconventional costume concepts
- Ensure costumes are functional, durable and comfortable for live performance
- Repair, alter, refresh and upgrade existing performance costumes
- Assist with fittings and make alterations when required
- Work independently while maintaining a high level of consistency and finish
Experience with any of the following is an asset:
- Rhinestoning, crystal application and costume embellishment
- Sewing and garment construction
- Stretchwear, dancewear or performancewear construction
- Costume alterations and repairs
- Fashion, theatre, dance, drag, cosplay, figure skating, gymnastics, film/TV or other performance costuming
Bonus Skills
We're especially interested in makers who are comfortable experimenting beyond traditional fabric construction.
Experience with materials or techniques such as leather, vinyl, Worbla, EVA foam, thermoplastics, hardware, chains, lightweight armour, harnesses, headpieces, accessories or sculptural costume elements is a major bonus.
You don't need to be an expert in all of these. We're interested in creative problem-solvers who can look at an unusual reference or concept and figure out how to build it.
Contract Details
- $22–$60/hour depending on experience, skill set and scope of work
- Contract / project-based
- Toronto / Vaughan
- Work will be offered on a project-by-project basis
- Potential for an ongoing working relationship as new projects arise
