French Ministry of Education, Alberta Education, and CAIS accredited French bilingual school of about 450 students total, is seeking a Full-time Bilingual Human Resources Advisor starting in Winter 2022.
Founded in 1966, Lycée international de Calgary (formerly Lycée Louis Pasteur) is a non-denominational independent French international school providing a challenging and stimulating bilingual education within a multicultural and multidisciplinary environment. We are Calgary’s premier French School, the only pre-K to Grade 12 school in Western Canada, both accredited by the French Ministry of Education and Alberta Education. As a member of the AEFE, we are part of a network of 535 schools in 140 countries.
JOB SUMMARY
The Human Resources Advisor is responsible for providing a broad range of human resources support and expertise which enables Lycée to deliver best practices and human resource solutions that complement the daily operations and strategic objectives of the organization.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
The scope of responsibility of the Bilingual Human Resources Advisor include, but are not limited to:
Recruitment, Selection and Orientation
- Develop and manage recruitment procedures, including job postings, screening, interviews, reference checks and selection practices, as well as employment offers
- Ensure job descriptions are created and updated regularly to accurately describe responsibilities, accountabilities, general duties, and qualifications
- Develop, implement and manage new employee orientation program and employee handbook/supporting documents
- Liaise with immigration lawyers and arrange for foreign staff job validation, work permits, etc.
- Develop and support implementation of return to work and re-orientation programs
- Support the administration of probation evaluations for all employees
Management Support and Planning
- Build organizational capacity, capability and bench strength through training programs designed to support Lycée’s growth plans and succession needs
- Recommend and lead change initiatives to continuously improve employee engagement and staff and faculty culture
- Ensure compliance with employment legislation
- Support the termination process, including distributing required termination documents to appropriate management employees
Employee Relations
- Establish and foster effective and collaborative working relationships with key stakeholders across the organization
- Establish open and trust-based relationships with all staff through formal and ad hoc coaching opportunities
- Support administration of discipline and employee coaching and provide input and resolution on employee relations issues (e.g. employee complaints and investigations)
Policy and Procedure
- Provide recommendations for HR policies and procedures, develop the necessary documentation and seek approval
- Advise all employees on changes, interpretation and administration of policies, procedures, programs and legislative compliance
Professional Development and Performance Oversight
- Facilitate the administration of performance management systems and attendance tracking.
- Aid in the formulation and assessment of employee professional development strategies.
- Support the ongoing professional growth of both administrative staff and faculty.
Human Resource Strategy Advisory
- Maintain accurate records and compile statistical reports relating to personnel data (e.g. hires, absenteeism rates)
- Analyze statistical data and reports to identify and determine causes of personnel problems and develop recommendations for improvement of the organization’s personnel, policies and practices
- Compensation framework to ensure internal and external equity
- Conduct exit interviews and provide management with analysis and recommendations
Group Benefits and Payroll
- Administer and educate employees of benefits and maintain a sustainable relationship with insurance providers
- Manage claims for short-term and long-term disability, act as a point of contact with broker and insurance providers and ensure effective return-to-work and re-orientation programs
- Provide the Finance Department with information on HR best practices relating to payroll and provide backup for payroll services, as required.
The Bilingual Human Resources Advisor is evaluated on an ongoing basis by the Director of Finance and follows a self-directed program of professional development, which is created in consultation with the Head of School.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Diploma in Human Resources Management or business administration specializing in HR or a related area of study (equivalencies will be considered)
- A CHRP designation is an asset
- Minimum of four (4) years of experience as an HR Advisor (series of progressive specialist roles will also be considered)
- Payroll experience would be a definite asset
- Strong experience with HR laws, regulations and best practices
- Intermediate to advanced knowledge of Google Suite
- Must speak, read and write in English and French fluently
Other requirements:
- First Aid training
- Up-to-date Police Check with Vulnerable Sector Search (valid 3 years)
- Candidates must be eligible to work in Canada

Monday-Friday 8:30 a.m. - 4:30 p.m.
Job Type
Permanent. Full-time - 35 hours per week.
Working conditions
Office environment with standard working hours
Occasional travel may be required for training or conferences
