Alberta Health Services is currently seeking a Neonatal Nurse Practitioner who is passionate about caring for infants who require specialized care within a large and diverse neonatal program. This role will allow you to apply your previous clinical Neonatal Nurse Practitioner (NNP) experience as part of a large NNP team. You will also be empowered and accountable to establish and maintain effective working relationships with internal and external stakeholders as well as work collaboratively with patients and families as partners in care. Alberta Health Services’ (AHS) has an exciting opportunity to join the Stollery Children’s Hospital Neonatal intensive care program that operates at three sites - the University of Alberta Hospital and the Royal Alexandra Hospital in Edmonton and the Sturgeon Community Hospital in St. Albert, Alberta Canada.
The Neonatal Nurse Practitioner (NNP) provides specialized care and management of neonates particularly those who are premature or sick patients in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) and intermediate care nurseries. This also includes stabilization and management of ill infants born in community hospitals. The NNP has additional education and training to provide advanced clinical skills, make critical management decisions, and facilitate consistent family-centered care as members of a multi-disciplinary team. The NNP collaborates with program staff, attending physicians and specialists to acquire and utilize best practice- evidence and resources needed for individual situations and to make adjustments and optimize program delivery. The NNP participates in program committees, quality improvement programs, and lead nursing research initiatives as well as providing education to AHS personnel delivering neonate care through specific outreach programs (ACORN, NRP) or through organized events such as workshops and simulation. The Edmonton zone NICU model of care allows for expert advanced clinical services 24 hrs a day/7 days a week allowing for both continuity of patient and family centered care and for the NNP an opportunity for skill retention. The NPP may act in a preceptor capacity and provide mentorship to new NNP’s, NP students and other healthcare providers.
