The Prevention Services Manager will provide a holistic approach to the wellness of the child, the family and the community that is based on nehiyaw views, beliefs and practices. This position will assist in implementing Day Star First Nation Prevention Services and develop service and programs within the community.
The Prevention Manager provides supervision, staffing support and will work in conjunction with existing programs and the program staff to provide early intervention and/or Prevention to families at risk while remaining within the parameters of the Prevention Principles, Service Agreements, FSIN Child & Family Support Act, Child & Family Services Act and ISC Terms and Conditions.
The Day Star FN Prevention Manager reviews initial requests for projects. To determine the nature of and rationale for, child family/prevention services, determine how a worker will coordinate the development of broader community-based prevention services to include children and families, and utilize and include other relevant community agencies in the provision of prevention and family services.
This position will be responsible for the Prevention Supervisor, which will consist of management, delivery, and development of the family, youth, and children’s social, recreational and cultural programming for the department of Prevention services with Day Star First Nation.
Responsibilities will include, but not limited to:
- Plan, coordinate and implement community-based prevention programs, services, projects and events as assigned according to workplans, budgets, and funding requirements to meet prevention objectives.
o Oversee and get approval from the director for the prevention budget and expenses.
- Complete and submit prevention program internal and external reporting, as necessary and requested.
- Participate in overall policy development and decision making as a member of the management team
- Recruit, train, supervise and mentor prevention program staff, First Nations Representative, contractors, and volunteers in their duties.
- Develop, implement and ensure compliance with prevention policy and practices.
- Authorize bi-weekly prevention staff time sheets, time in lieu and time off requests
- Supporting First Nations youth and young adults with post-majority care as needed
- Serving as the main contact between the First Nation and Touchwood Child and Family Services and Family service provider (i.e. MSS – Ministry of Social Services)
- Ensures that child and family services provider (i.e. MSS – Ministry of Social Services) address the needs of First Nations children, youth, and families, including needs tied to culture, land and geography, and the effects of historical and contemporary disadvantage.
- Monitor and Develop agreements with Child and Family Services provider pertaining to individual children, youth, and families
- Apply for grants, CHRT-41, and funding opportunities when available in further supporting and developing prevention programing.
