The Finishing Trades Institute of B.C. seeks a OHS Training Coordinator/Instructor.
The Finishing Trades Institute of British Columbia (FTI BC) specializes in trades training for apprentices and journeypersons in various crafts such as Painting and Decorating, Glazing, Drywall Finishing, and Wall and Ceiling Installation.
We are seeking a proactive and detail orientated trainer/coordinator to join our team. The ideal candidate would be energetic, and detail orientated. This driven professional would continue to build on an existing Safety program with a full-time, permanent position.
This position will offer continuous leadership, training, and assistance to address both the internal requirements of our members and the external needs of our contractors.
Typical Duties
You will be responsible for your own department with the autonomy to structure your timetable based on the needs of our members. Your responsibilities will encompass organizing safety training, with the flexibility to subcontract specific training requirements if needed.
· Administration and instruction of health and safety training.
· Conduct facility inspections and assessments to ensure a safe and healthy environment is being maintained, and that our curriculum reflects a modern and comprehensive health and safety culture.
· Work closely with management and Contractors to ensure members are compliant and current with their safety certifications according to OHS Regulations and Guidelines.
· Update and maintain health and safety training records.
· Oversee purchasing of safety equipment and supplies
· Schedule and chair Health & Safety Committee meetings.
· Conducting Hearing Tests and Respirator Fit Testing.
· Assist Hazardous Materials Association of BC with curriculum development.
· Professional delivery of class content.
· Work week Tuesday to Saturday
Education & Experience
· Education in Occupational Health and Safety or Risk Management plus experience in construction related safety management.
· Strong administrative skills along with the ability to maintain and report accurate data.
· Advanced working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications such as Word, PowerPoint and Excel.
Other Requirements
· Valid Occupational Level 2 or Higher First Aid Certification.
· Having or Willing to obtain Instructor Certification for WorkSafeBC Level 1 First Aid (Basic)
· Occasional Provincial Travel may be required.
· Valid B.C. Drivers license.
