We are currently seeking a well-rounded, detail-oriented, and proactive professional to step into a hybrid role encompassing accounting, tax preparation & review, and client communication management for US based clients.
About the role
This role works exclusively with U.S. based clients, serving clients under U.S. GAAP and the U.S. federal and state tax framework. Reporting to the firm's owner, this position plays a central role in ensuring efficient internal operations, exceptional client service, and accurate financial reporting.
What you'll do
Accounting (full-cycle bookkeeping & reconciliation)
Manage full-cycle bookkeeping and account reconciliations for monthly, quarterly, and semiannual clients across a wide range of industries.
Perform monthly bank and credit card reconciliations, ensuring financial records are accurate and up to date.
Investigate discrepancies, correct coding errors, prepare and post journal entries and adjusting entries in compliance with US GAAP.
Ensure timely and accurate filing of sales tax returns, business entity reports, and other required filings.
Provide support during external audits, including compiling documentation, reconciling accounts, and resolving auditor questions.
Review client general ledger data to identify irregularities and implement corrective adjustments for clean financials.
Maintain organized digital records of all client financials, reports, and internal communications to ensure audit readiness and operational transparency.
Tax preparation, review & workflow management
Prepare, review, and present accurate consolidated and entity-level financial statements and management reporting packages
Prepare complex tax returns for businesses (1120, 1120S, 1065) and individuals, including multi-state filings, self-employment income, and rental property activity
Ensure timely and accurate filing of sales tax returns, business entity reports, and other required filings
Review returns prepared by staff, ensuring accuracy, compliance, and completeness before final submission
Coordinate internal tax workflow, track return statuses, and assign preparation tasks to ensure timely progress across all client accounts
Collaborate directly with the firm's owner to identify applicable deductions and credits and gather supporting documentation from clients
Maintain strong knowledge of current federal and state tax laws and proactively adjust practices to ensure compliance and tax optimization
Deliver clear analysis of business performance, unit economics, margins, and portfolio trends across operations
Lead budgeting, forecasting, rolling re-forecasts, and cash-flow planning, with variance analysis against plan to support short- and long-term decision-making
Client communication & office coordination
Serve as the primary point of contact for clients across all service areas, managing inbound calls, emails, and messages in a prompt and professional manner
Address client questions regarding tax documents, financial reports, account reconciliations, and
payment processing, escalating matters to the owner when appropriate
Provide support during external audits, including compiling documentation, reconciling accounts and resolving auditor questions
Maintain internal workflows to support daily office operations, including document routing, data requests, and CRM upkeep
Represent the firm's values of integrity, reliability, and exceptional service in every client interaction
What we're looking for
This position serves U.S. clients exclusively — U.S. tax experience and U.S. GAAP experience are strongly preferred
Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Accounting or a related field (or equivalent experience)
3+ years of experience in public accounting, bookkeeping, and/or tax preparation
Strong proficiency in QuickBooks Online, Microsoft Excel, Word, and client management software
Thorough understanding of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP)
Excellent communication, time management, and organizational skills, with strong attention to detail
Ability to work independently and manage competing priorities and deadlines with professionalism and accuracy
Nice to have
QuickBooks Online ProAdvisor Certification
Experience with Intuit ProConnect and Zoho Books
Tax preparation experience, including business and/or individual returns (1120, 1120S, 1065) and multi-state filings
Experience with multi-entity reporting and nonprofit or small business financials
US CPA is a plus, but not required

Compensation & Benefits
Compensation Range: CA$65K - CA$85K
