Position Title: Conservation Technician
Reports to: Conservation Director
Location: London, Ontario, with travel to field sites up to 1 hour from London
Hours of work: 37.5 hours per week, typically worked between Monday-Friday, 8:30 am - 4:30 pm, with some evening and weekend work as needed
Term: Full-time, 1 year contract
Start Date: August 17th, 2026 (negotiable)
Compensation: $22.00/hr

Thames Talbot Land Trust (TTLT) is an environmental charity with a mission to protect, restore, and nurture nature within Southwestern Ontario. Established in 2000, TTLT has built a dedicated network of staff, volunteers, and community partners who work together to conserve important natural and agricultural lands and inspire a connection to nature at the local level.
TTLT permanently protects more than 2,600 acres of land across 32 sites (and counting), which are home to more than 100 species at risk. Position Summary:
The Conservation Technician will join TTLT’s stewardship team to assist in forest management activities to enhance ecological integrity and be part of implementing nature-based solutions on more than 2,600 acres of land within TTLT’s focal area in Southwestern Ontario. This position involves work in both an office environment and outside in nature. Candidates must be comfortable working off trail and in any weather conditions.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assisting with annual monitoring of nature reserves;
- Assisting with inventory, surveys, and data management of forests, natural features and species at risk using GIS tools;
- Assist with data collection and analysis of carbon sequestration by forest habitats
- Creating and/or maintaining hiking trails and performing structural maintenance such as installing signage, repairing fences, etc.;
- Monitoring and management of invasive species in forest habitat on nature reserves (methods include hand pulling, cutting using hand tools, and pesticide application under proper supervision);
- Assist in forest restoration and habitat enhancement, including silviculture, seed collection and processing, reforestation, etc.;
- Preparation and implementation of Managed Forest Plan activities;
- Assisting with conservation planning, including the preparation of Property Management Plans (PMP) for nature reserves;
- Assisting in preparing land securement documentation and reports for protection of forest habitats;
- Assisting in preparing, tracking and reporting on grant applications;
- Leading conservation related public events, including volunteer workdays, high school field trips, guided hikes, and other similar events;
- Assisting in volunteer coordination and preparation of educational materials such as trail guides, pamphlets, signs, and webpages;
- Other tasks as assigned.
Experience, Abilities & Skills:
Must have:
- A love of nature and the outdoors and a passion for the environment;
- Previous experience and enthusiasm for working outdoors, off trail, in all weather and conditions (e.g. rain, heat, mosquitoes);
- Ability to identify at least some of the following: plants (including invasive plants), birds, reptiles, and amphibians present in Southwestern Ontario;
- Mechanically inclined or ability to learn how to use power tools such as chainsaw, hedge trimmer, lawn mower;
- Excellent written/oral communication, organization, attention to detail, and time management skills;
- Excellent public speaking skills in both formal and informal settings, in order to deliver in-person and online programming and lead volunteer and outreach events;
- Good communication and teamwork skills to develop and maintain good working relationships with staff and volunteers;
- Imagination, forethought, and sense of humour dealing with unexpected situations and complex stewardship requirements;
- Valid Ontario driver’s license and clean driving record.

Participants must:
- Be between the ages of 15 and 30 (inclusive) at the start of the internship;
- Be Canadian Citizens, Permanent Residents, or Protected Persons as defined by the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act;
- Not a student or currently enrolled in school or an academic program;
- Be legally entitled to work in Canada; and
- Be legally entitled to work according to the relevant provincial/territorial legislation and regulations.
