Design Architect – Transit Infrastructure

About the Opportunity
Olade Consulting is supporting TTC in sourcing a Design Architect to support ongoing capital projects and infrastructure programs.
This is a hands-on architectural leadership role focused on delivering design and construction support across a portfolio of transit-related facilities.
The successful candidate will work closely with the Chief Architect, engineering teams, and external consultants, contributing to the design, execution, and delivery of critical infrastructure projects.
Role Overview
As the Design Architect, you will provide full architectural design services across multiple projects, ensuring designs are:
- Technically sound
- Code-compliant
- Safe and constructible
- Cost-effective and maintainable
This role combines design leadership, technical delivery, and on-site involvement, requiring a strong ability to work across both office and field environments.
Key Responsibilities
Architectural Design & Delivery
- Provide full architectural design services for transit-related facilities
- Develop:
- Schematic designs
- Preliminary designs
- Detailed design documentation
- Prepare technical design reports and presentations
Design Management & Leadership
- Lead and manage design activities in line with approved work plans
- Direct and review work of:
- Technologists
- Design Draftspersons
- Supporting technical staff
- Act as design lead on assigned projects
Code Compliance & Technical Review
- Conduct code compliance reviews for new and existing facilities
- Ensure all designs meet:
- Applicable building codes
- Safety standards
- Engineering and operational requirements
- Review and sign off on design documentation where required
Contract Documentation & Construction Support
- Develop and prepare full contract documentation packages
- Provide construction-phase support, including:
- Review of shop drawings
- Evaluation of contractor submittals
- Assist in managing contract changes and design clarifications
Site Reviews & Field Work
- Conduct regular site visits and field reviews
- Gather project information from site and stakeholders
- Prepare:
- Field review reports
- Deficiency reports
- Support compliance with permit and regulatory requirements
Stakeholder Coordination
- Collaborate with:
- Engineering teams
- Operations teams
- External consultants
- Participate in meetings, site visits, and technical discussions
- Provide architectural input across multidisciplinary teams
Design Review & Standards Development
- Review and provide feedback on:
- Designs prepared by consultants
- Internal engineering deliverables
- Support updates and improvements to organizational design standards
- Assess development proposals for impact on infrastructure and standards
Operational Support
- Provide architectural support to operations teams as required
- Contribute to continuous improvement of facility design and performance
Mandatory Requirements
Education & Certification
- Degree in Architecture
- Licensed Architect (OAA – Ontario Association of Architects) – mandatory
Experience
- Minimum 10+ years of experience in:
- Architectural design
- Complex, multidisciplinary projects
- Experience delivering projects in:
- Infrastructure, transportation, or large public facilities
Technical Skills
- Strong experience in:
- Architectural design and documentation
- Code compliance and regulatory requirements
- Construction support and contract documentation
- Proficiency in:
- Design coordination and technical reviews
Preferred (Assets)
- Experience in transit facility design
- Experience with:
- MicroStation
- Revit
Work Environment
- Hybrid role:
- TTC Office: 5160 Yonge Street, Toronto
- Remote work flexibility
- Regular on-site visits required (2–3 days/week)
- Must be available for:
- Site visits with short notice
- Stakeholder meetings
- PPE provided (excluding safety shoes)
Engagement Details
- Approx. 249 working days per year
- 35 hours/week (billable hours only)
- No reimbursement for travel or related expenses

Pay: $100.00-$150.00 per hour
