Southwestern Manufacturing Inc. is seeking 1 permanent full-time Burning Table Operator (minimum of 40–50 hours per week) to start as soon as possible. We have openings on afternoon shift. Southwestern Manufacturing typically operates on rotating day and afternoon shifts. Our facility is located in Windsor, Ontario
Role Overview
The Burning Table Operator is responsible for the safe and efficient operation of CNC and/or manual oxy-fuel and plasma burning tables used to cut steel plate and metal materials according to production specifications. This role requires strong technical skills, the ability to interpret blueprints, and a commitment to quality and safety standards to ensure accurate and timely production of components.
Key Responsibilities
- Knowledge of blueprints, drawings, work orders, and cutting specifications.
- Set up, program, operate, and monitor CNC burning tables utilizing oxy-fuel plasma cutting processes.
- Select appropriate cutting parameters, consumables, and tooling based on material type and thickness.
- Load, position, and secure steel plates and materials using overhead cranes, forklifts, or other lifting equipment.
- Verify dimensions and inspect finished parts to ensure compliance with quality requirements and tolerances.
- Identify and mark cut parts according to production and traceability requirements.
- Perform routine machine maintenance, cleaning, and basic troubleshooting.
- Monitor equipment performance and report maintenance concerns to supervisors.
- Maintain accurate production and quality records.
- Follow all company safety procedures, quality standards, and housekeeping requirements.
- Restock drops/ materials with proper identification information heat numbers

Qualifications & Skills
- Knowledge of oxy-fuel and plasma cutting processes, equipment, and consumables.
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints, drawings, and technical specifications.
- Proficient in the use of measuring instruments such as tape measures, calipers, and squares.
- Strong mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting abilities.
- Good mathematical and spatial reasoning skills.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality workmanship.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced manufacturing environment and meet production deadlines.
Education & Experience
- Secondary (high) school graduation certificate or equivalent.
- Minimum 2–3 years of experience operating CNC burning tables, plasma tables, or oxy-fuel cutting equipment preferred.
- Experience in heavy manufacturing, steel fabrication, or industrial environments considered an asset.
- Overhead crane and forklift experience considered an asset.
- Must be able to speak, read, and understand English to safely follow work instructions, drawings, and safety procedures.
Working Conditions
- Manufacturing shop environment with exposure to heat, sparks, noise, dust, fumes, and moving equipment.
- Frequent standing, walking, bending, crouching, and lifting throughout the shift.
- Operation of overhead cranes and material handling equipment.
- Mandatory use of personal protective equipment (PPE), including safety glasses, hearing protection, steel-toed footwear, gloves, and flame-resistant clothing.
- Ability to work overtime as required to support production schedules.
