Summary
Under the authority of the Health, Safety & Environment Superintendent, the Health & Safety Counselor act as a support for the foreman in all activities, particularly regarding health & safety, environment and training to ensure the optimization of activities on each project in accordance with the requirements of each contract and the company expectations.
Main Tasks and Responsibilities
Acts as health and safety and environment contact for all managers and employees in his sector and demonstrates safe work habits in all situations;
Conducts visits jointly with the project foremen and the client;
- Observes employees' working methods, provides correctives actions in the event of significant risks and, supports the manager in their management of identified risks;
- Revises the procedures established and ensures that they are known to all and controlled;
- Accompanies and supports the foremen in the preparation, conduct and implementation of their health and safety meetings and accident investigations and analysis;
- Ensures compliance with legal standards and company policies;
- Ensures that the required inspections, audits and follow-ups are done according to the determined standards and frequencies;
- Evaluates the gaps between the observations made and the company's expectations;
- Ensures follow-up of non-conformities;
- Trains workers with the necessary training programs and provides follow-up on sites;
- All other tasks related to health & safety, environment or training.
Profile and Requirements
- Hold a certificate in Occupational Health and Safety or work experience in the field and/or extensive experience in similar functions;
- Experience in the drilling industry is an asset;
- Demonstrated intermediate to advanced proficiency in the Microsoft Office Suite, specifically: Excel, Outlook and Word;
- Have a valid and current drivers licence;
- Bilingualism (English/French) is considered a strong asset, though not mandatory;
- Have experience in inspection visits or similar functions;
- Be dynamic, sociable, attentive and observant;
- Be a good communicator;
- Must be willing to travel (out of local area) if required;
- The successful candidate must be able to pass a satisfactory Criminal Record and Judicial Matters Check (CRJMC) as a condition of employment;
- Have a sense of responsibility and be self-sufficient.
Schedule and Work Location
- Timmins branch
- Daytime schedule, 50 hours/week over 5 days
- Availability outside of regular working hours may be required.
- Over time, when required.
