Job Overview:
We are seeking a dedicated Veterinary Assistant to join our team. The assistant helps with general patient care and treatment including animal restraint, monitoring patients, preparing for surgical procedures, performing routine in-house laboratory work, and general housekeeping. Communicates with and educates clients by providing basic information, prepares prescriptions as prescribed by Veterinarians and assists the Receptionists, as required.
Duties:
- Sterilizing and maintaining treatment areas and equipment
- Holding animals during exams and vaccinations
- Providing instruments to the veterinarian during procedures
- Monitoring vital signs such as temperature, heart rate and respiration
- Collecting laboratory samples
- Using lab equipment to run bloodwork and urinalysis
- Recording relevant information about animals, including weight and types of medication given
- Assist veterinarians and technicians with various tasks as needed
Requirements:
- Previous experience in a veterinary clinical role is preferred but not required
- Knowledge of veterinary procedures and terminology is a plus
- Strong communication skills and the ability to multitask effectively
- Ability to handle animals with care and compassion
Nice-to-have Skills:
- Experience working in a laboratory setting would be beneficial
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $20.00-$30.00 per hour
Expected hours: 30 – 40 per week
