Vice President Finance/Chief Financial Officer
We are seeking an experienced and entrepreneurial minded VP of Finance/CFO to join our team. We value the years of experience the new VP Finance/CFO will bring to the role and are also excited for an opportunity to work with an intuitive natural-born leader.
As the leader of a large team, and a member of the Executive team, you will do more than just crunch numbers. You will act as a key resource to all members of the corporate team, as well as motivate and inspire your own team of accounting professionals. You will bring an entrepreneurial spirit, recognition of the value of teamwork, and a desire to collaborate and build relationships with all members of the team company wide.
As a key member of the Executive Management team, you will assume a strategic role in the overall management of the Company. You will have primary responsibility for strategic planning, implementing, managing, and controlling all financial and tax-related activities. With a supporting team, this will include direct responsibility for financial statements, tax issues, insurance, budgeting, costing, capital investment analysis, and banking relations.
As the VP Finance/CFO, you will instill business discipline and promote the use of in-depth financial information and analysis to support strategic and operational decision making and performance management for the entire company.
In coordination with the Executive Team, assist in formulating the company’s future direction and supporting tactical initiatives
Monitor and direct the implementation of strategic business plans
Collaborate with external auditors on financial and tax strategies
Manage the capital request and budgeting processes
Develop, maintain, and analyze performance measures and investment ROI that support the company’s strategic direction
Keep up to date with current rules around taxation and trends in the financial industry
Proactive identification & communication of projects eligible for SRED, other government incentives, and oversight of data collection to ensure successful submissions
Participate in key decisions as a member of the Executive team
Maintain in-depth relations with all members of the Executive team
Manage the accounting, costing, legal, tax, and treasury operations
Manage third parties to which functions have been outsourced
Oversee the company’s Financial Processing Systems
Implement operational best practices i.e. Lean philosophies and work with Executive team to develop cascading KPIs to meet company objectives through continuous improvement
Experience calculating and presenting ROI/ROE
Continuous improvement of a Cost Accounting System and strategy to effectively plan, study, and collect data to determine costs of business activity including raw material purchases, inventory, labor, and manufacturing processes
Ensure costing strategy to analyze changes in product design, raw materials, manufacturing methods or services provided
Lead Finance team in analyzing actual manufacturing costs and prepare reports to compare standard and actual production costs
Experience using bill of materials to identify unique product margins to drive optimal product mix through the enterprise.
Oversee the production of monthly Financial Statements
Monthly financial statement ratio reporting for the Bank
Personally review and approve all tax filings
Report financial results to the executive team
Oversight of financial transactions for related companies
Understand and navigate with key stakeholders key elements of the company’s risk profile
Monitor all open legal issues involving the company and legal issues affecting the industry
Construct and monitor reliable control systems
Maintain appropriate insurance coverage for Garibaldi and all related companies and proactively inform CEO of insurance gaps
Ensure the company complies with all legal and regulatory requirements
Ensure record keeping meets the requirements of auditors and government agencies
Report risk issues to senior management
Maintain relations with external auditors and investigate their findings and recommendations
Coach and mentor team of professionals in varying stages of their careers
Provide vision and goals for team
Encourage and foster teamwork within the department and with other departments
Cash management and forecasting
Evaluation of exposure to Foreign Exchange and recommend appropriate hedging solutions as necessary
Proactively advise CEO on optimal funding solutions to capital investment i.e. debt vs equity
Maintain strategic relationships with external stakeholders, including but not limited to; Banking Representatives, External Accountants, Legal Counsel, and Insurance Brokers.
Designated Accountant CPA
Bachelor’s degree in Business or Commerce MBA is considered an asset
Minimum 10 years’ relevant experience
Previous experience implementing Cost Accounting initiatives for a manufacturing environment is a must
Previous experience working with Microsoft Navision software is an asset
Previous experience partnering with an executive team

Experience leading, managing, and mentoring a team
Experience operating within a complex, entrepreneurial, and dynamic environment
Demonstrated ability to apply financial theory to real business situations
Able to effectively manage multiple demands and time pressures to meet deadlines
Strong communication skills to effectively interact with all levels and functions within the organization
Knowledge and continuously learning and growing personal knowledge of industry trends
Must be accessible outside normal business hours, as required
High attention to detail and focused on process improvement
Knowledge of how to leverage ERP systems to better facilitate the accounting process
