Salary Range: $30.39 per hour to $34.99 per hour (Start rate: $30.39 per hour in accordance with collective agreement requirements)
Hours: 37.5 hours per week; All Shifts 24/7
Status: Permanent Full-time

Job Summary:
As an integral member of the Genetics laboratory the Laboratory Technician IV will perform a variety of support functions under direct supervision including;
receiving, sorting, accessioning and processing specimens following established procedures and guidelines; preparing, handling and dispensing specimens/reagents, as required; preparing and processing FFPE tissue for nucleic acid extractions; preparing and processing blood, BM, plasma and other fluids for nucleic acid extractions; performing nucleic acid extractions; performing quantitation and storage of extracted specimens; assisting in telephone calls and customer service; assisting in maintenance of equipment and benches; performing inventory and purchasing activities; assisting in quality improvement programs, observing and understanding hospital and departmental policies and procedures; adhering to hospital and departmental mission and value statements while maintaining patient confidentiality; performing cross-functional duties, as assigned, or requested; performing purchasing and inventory control activities; performing other duties related to and consistent with job classification, as required. Will be required to work various shifts as assigned.
Qualifications:
Completion of Grade XII, or recognized equivalent required
Graduation from a certified post-secondary Laboratory Technician or Laboratory Assistant certificate program, or recognized equivalent required
Certification from CSMLS and/or MLPAO required
Recent work experience in molecular diagnostics preferred
Basic knowledge and understanding of theory and lab procedures pertaining to genetics preferred
Demonstrated problem recognition and problem solving skills
Effective organizational, time management, and prioritization skills
Effective verbal and written communication skills
Must be computer literate in Windows based applications
Ability to work effectively in a fast paced environment
Understanding of appropriate behavior required to work successfully in a diverse work group
