Position Vacancy: Adult Inpatient Mental Health Program

Position Summary :
At the Waterloo Regional Health Network, we work with the communities we serve towards life-long health and well-being for all. Our Mental Health & Addictions Program strives to deliver exceptional patient experience, excellent patient access, and engaged staff. Reporting to the Clinical Manager, your responsibilities will include but are not limited to: offering person-centred care, guided by recovery principles, the Psychologist promotes healing and instills hope while demonstrating the values of the Mental Health and Addictions Program. The successful candidate will be a member of a multidisciplinary Adult Inpatient Mental Health program at Midtown. The team offers services to people who present to hospital in an acute mental health crisis that requires inpatient assessment and stabilization. For the psychology member of the team, the emphasis will be on complex diagnostic assessment, consultation, psychoeducation, discharge planning and time-limited intervention as needed. The successful candidate will also be expected to be knowledgeable about patients presenting with bio-behavioral problems (biological, behavioral, social/cultural, and environmental) that influence the health of individuals. The Psychologist contributes to ensuring there is a safe environment for patients, staff and visitors. Will provide out-patient psychodiagnostic assessments and brief intervention as needed with service to inpatients being their first priority.
Position Requirements:
Successful completion of graduate education, with a minimum of a Masters level Degree, in Psychology (i.e. M.A., M.Sc., M.Ps., M.Ed.), with four years of experience working in the scope of practice of Psychology and registration in good standing with the College of Psychologists and Behavioural Analysts of Ontario as well as registration as a Psychologist in other recognized Canadian jurisdictions (i.e. Association of Psychology of Newfoundland and Labrador, etc.); OR successful completion of a doctoral level degree in Psychology (Ph.D., Psy.D., Ed.D., D. Psy.) with a one-year internship and registration in good standing with the College of Psychologists and Behavioural Analysts of Ontario.
Training in Clinical psychology and neuropsychology, with neuropsychological assessment experience preferred.
Recent relevant experience with adults diagnosed with a neurodevelopmental disorder (e.g., ADHD, ASD, Intellectual Disability), acquired brain injury (e.g., traumatic brain injury, concussion, stroke), dual diagnosis, or complex age-related cognitive impairment

Proven ability to provide multisystem consultation
- Proven ability to work collaboratively in a multi-disciplinary team setting
- Proven ability for utilizing best practices in meeting the needs of individuals and their families in the context of an acute mental health crisis whether a first hospital admission or a crisis superimposed on a severe persistent mental illness
- Working knowledge of the Mental Health Act, Community Treatment Orders, Health Care Consent Act and any other relevant legislation
- Will have experience in delivering complex diagnostic assessment results to patients, their families, care team and community partners as needed.
Will have proven ability to provide relevant treatment recommendations to patient, families, and care team.
Will have proven ability to provide psychoeducation to patients and families and to provide time-limited therapeutic interventions when appropriate. Knowledge of and experience delivering CBT and DBT skills is needed. Knowledge and experience delivering Interpersonal Therapy or another psychodynamically oriented psychotherapy is a plus.
- Will have demonstrated excellent interpersonal skills including supervisory skills to provide clinical supervision and training for psychology student interns and maintains clinical accountability in the provision of psychological services, in accordance with any/all relevant ethical, professional, and supervision guidelines of the Canadian Psychological Association and the College of Psychologists and Behavioural Analysts of Ontario
- Will participate in team building, service committees, service development and quality improvement activities striving to contribute to a healthy workplace environment, as required
- Excellent organizational, prioritization and problem-solving abilities
- Advanced written and verbal communication skills; excellent keyboarding/report writing skills with good working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite
- Contributes to ensuring there is a safe environment for patients, staff and visitors
- Ability to work independently
- Demonstrated understanding and commitment to Waterloo Regional Health Network Mental Health & Addiction Program recovery philosophy and comprehensive safety programs
- Ability to defuse conflict and foster collaborative working relationships
- Access to transport and valid driver’s license
