COMPANY OVERVIEW
Based in Calgary, AB, and reporting to the IT Manager, the IT specialist will mainly be responsible for assisting staff with installation, configuration, and ongoing usability of end-user computer systems (desktops/laptops), handheld mobile devices, internal office network, peripheral equipment and software complying with the given standards and guidelines. A primary deliverable of this position is to help staff make efficient use of the corporate IT systems to perform their jobs effectively.
POSITION DESCRIPTION
The Corporate IT Services Team within Canadian Fiber Optics Corp. (COFC) is focused on delivering an outstanding IT experience to our internal staff and in turn the IT Specialist is expected to share in that focus and commitment towards an excellent end-user experience.
PERFORMANCE AREA
Technical Support
- Procurement, installation, configuration, and troubleshooting of end-user computer hardware, software, systems, networks (LAN), printers, scanners, mobile devices (cell phones, tablets etc.) and desk phones, televisions, postage machines and other IT peripherals for the staff.
- Working closely with the IT Manager to improve staff understanding and usage of MS365 applications (SharePoint, OneDrive, Teams etc.).
- Support staff members with their day-to-day requirements related to MS365 applications suite.
- Reviewing and fulfilling all hardware and software needs for new and transitioning employees.
- Setting up and managing employee user accounts.
- Administering the purchasing and managing of software licenses.
- Logging and processing support calls and maintaining support call queues.
- Responding promptly to service issues and requests.
- Train and guide staff on computer hardware and software use. This includes preparing required training documents and user manuals to achieve this goal.
- Planning & undertaking scheduled end-user system maintenance, upgrades, and hardware/software replacements.
- Testing new end-user hardware/software technology for compatibility and integration with other CFOC systems.
- Setup and manage user accounts and permissions within the Internal Corporate Network (ICN).
- Provide support in testing and deployment of new applications and systems.
- Coordinate with vendors and suppliers to resolve technical problems with the IT equipment and software.
General
- Be alert to opportunities for innovation and improvement of policies, practices, and procedures.
- Contribute positively promptly to all phases of planning and implementation of various tasks undertaken.
- Remain alert for developing problems and report or respond appropriately.
- Maintain strict confidentiality for the information acquired during employment at CFOC.
- Cooperate with all members, customers, directors, volunteers, management, and staff in furthering CFOC goals and objectives.
- Externally, to contribute to a positive corporate image always. Internally, to maintain constructive working relationships within the organization.

Training and Documentation
- Maintain an organized repository of documentation on day-to-day operations.
- Prepare and present the required documentation (manuals, how-to’s etc.) for internal staff training.
- Achieve and maintain professional certifications and training as required.
Reporting
- Report on weekly activity showing progress on tasks and tickets handled.
- Attend and contribute to team meetings.
- Track open tickets and status updates proactively.

JOB SPECIFICATION
Education
- Certificate or diploma in Information Technology or a related field
Experience
- One to two years of experience in a technical support role
- Expertise in the configuration and troubleshooting of the MS-Windows operating system
- Expertise in the configuration, troubleshooting, and management of the MS365 applications suite.
- Working knowledge of Unix-based operating systems (Linux, CentOS, Ubuntu, etc.
- Familiarity with desktop and laptop computer systems/components
Preferred Certifications
- MCDST (Microsoft Certified Desktop Support Technician)
- MCP (Microsoft Certified Professional)
- CompTIA A+/Network+
