Overview
We are seeking a compassionate, dependable caregiver who has experience working with Indigenous individuals, families, or communities and possesses a strong understanding of Indigenous cultural protocols, traditions, and values
Duties
- Provide compassionate, respectful, and culturally safe care and support.
- Assist with daily living activities, including personal care, meal preparation, and light housekeeping as needed.
- Offer companionship, emotional support, and encouragement to promote overall well-being.
- Support participation in community, cultural, and traditional activities.
- Demonstrate knowledge of and respect for Indigenous protocols, traditions, teachings, and cultural practices.
- Liaise with family members, Elders, Knowledge Keepers, community organizations, and service providers when appropriate.
- Assist with transportation to appointments, cultural gatherings, and community events.
- Maintain accurate records and communicate regularly regarding care needs and progress.
- Ensure the individual's dignity, privacy, independence, and cultural identity are respected at all times.
- Help create a welcoming, inclusive, and culturally responsive environment.
- Follow all health, safety, confidentiality, and organizational policies and procedures
Skills
- Strong understanding of Indigenous cultures, traditions, protocols, and community values.
- Ability to work respectfully with First Nations, Métis, and Inuit individuals, families, and communities.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
- Compassionate, patient, and empathetic approach to caregiving and support.
- Ability to build trusting relationships with clients, families, Elders, and community members.
- Knowledge of cultural safety, trauma-informed care, and person-centered support practices.
- Strong organizational and time-management skills.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and professional boundaries.
- Problem-solving skills and the ability to respond calmly in challenging situations.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
- Experience coordinating cultural, community, or wellness-related activities is an asset.
- Basic computer skills, including email, documentation, and record keeping.
- Valid First Aid/CPR certification is an asset.
- Valid driver's license and reliable transportation may be required.
