We are currently seeking a candidate for the following vacancy:
Vacant Job Position: Generator Electrical & Controls Technician
Vacant Role: Full Time, Permanent
Location: Mississauga, Ontario
In this job position, the candidate will perform the following job duties:
- Perform all ECM / DEIF controller wiring and integration for generator units.
- Program and maintain generator controllers, PLC, and automation systems.
- Conduct generator testing, startup, and operational verification.
- Complete and maintain accurate production and service reports, and testing documentation.
- Troubleshoot and repair generator systems, controls, and related electrical/mechanical issues.
- Diagnose and resolve issues involving generator controllers, engine electronic systems, switchgear wiring and testing, generator electrical wiring and control systems.
- Support commissioning and testing procedures for completed generator packages.
- Serve as the primary technical point of contact with vendor CSEs and technical support teams.
- Assist production and service teams with technical troubleshooting and system support, including commissioning of generator units.
- Perform factory tests to Engineers while maintaining organized and retaining testing records.
- Test and validate proper operation of control wiring, sensors, protection systems, and communication interfaces.
- Attend customer sites & onsite projects when required when responding promptly to generator repairs/maintenance services.
- Ensure all work is completed safely and in accordance with company and industry standards according to provincial safety regulation and electrical codes.
- Support continuous improvement initiatives within warehouse production and testing processes.
- Stay current with provincial electrical code requirements and apply them during installation, maintenance, and troubleshooting activities.
- Travel to customer sites as required.
- Attend workshop training.
- Other duties as assigned.
The successful candidate will also obtain the following qualifications & skills for this position:
- Post-Secondary Education in Electrical Engineering or a graduate of an electrical program is an asset.
- Minimum of 5 years job related experience.
- Experience with industrial generators and power generation systems is considered an asset.
- Strong understanding of generator controls/PLC programming, electrical wiring, and troubleshooting is an asset.
- Experience working with DEIF controllers, PSI systems, ZENITH equipment, and MTU engines preferred
- Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics and wiring diagrams.
- Experience performing generator testing and commissioning.
- Electrical, mechanical, or power systems background considered an asset.
- Post-secondary education Mechanical Engineering is considered an asset.
- Strong time management and organizational skills, with the ability to prioritize. competing demands and perform effectively in a fast-paced environment while maintaining a high degree of accuracy.
- Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and interpersonal skills.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively across cross-functional teams.
- Full understanding of the latest CSA C282 Standard.
- Demonstrated ability to manage multiple priorities and adapt to changing operational requirements.
- Ability to handle confidential and controlled information with professionalism and discretion.
- Strong numerical aptitude and attention to detail, with the ability to perform accurate calculations and data analysis.
- Experience working with ERP systems such as SAP or Oracle is considered an asset.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel, and Outlook.
- Proven ability to establish and maintain positive working relationships with vendors, suppliers, and internal stakeholders.
- Ability to lift heavy equipment up to 100lbs. and occasionally more.
