Responsibilities
The Registered Nurse (RN) utilizes the nursing process, critical thinking and problem solving skills to provide holistic care to individuals, families, groups, communities and populations across the life span. The RN is responsible for the overall coordination and direction of nursing care. The RN provides clinical leadership particularly in complex or unpredictable patient/client care settings. The RN has the knowledge, skill and judgment needed to provide competent, evidenced based nursing practice. The RN is accountable for the development, implementation and ongoing evaluation of the plan of care to achieve patient/client outcomes. The RN supports the development of students and colleagues through acting as a preceptor and providing ongoing mentorship. The RN contributes to the efficient and effective functioning of the unit, coordination of patient care and staffing. The RN accepts responsibility for maintaining and continually enhancing competencies through ongoing professional development including participation in education programs, research and continuous quality activities. The RN practices according to the Canadian Nurses Association Code of Ethics for Registered Nurses, the College of Registered Nurses of Nova Scotia Standards of Nursing Practice, specialty standards as applicable and the policies and procedures of the Nova Scotia Health Authority. The RN is responsible and accountable for his/her nursing practice and conduct as defined by the College of Registered Nurses of Nova Scotia and for ensuring that his/her registration is current and valid.

Qualifications
  • Graduate of an accredited School of Nursing and current registration with CRNNS
  • Recent Hematology/BMT/Oncology experience required
  • Ambulatory Care nursing experience required
  • Current chemotherapy, venous access and maintenance, blood product administration, and recovery of biopsy procedure skills preferred
  • Certification in the administration of cancer chemotherapy and CVAD an asset
  • Strong assessment, adult teaching, counselling, leadership, and knowledge of community resources would be a definite asset
  • Demonstrated effective communication and interpersonal skills
  • Competencies in other languages an asset, French preferred

Hours of Work
  • Short Assignment Full-time Position; 75 hours bi-weekly
  • With an anticipated start date of June 23, 2019 and an expected end date of January 4, 2020 (approx. 6 months)

Salary Information
Registered Nurse

$34.1762 - $40.3968 hourly

($41.8107 hourly with 25 years RN experience)
